I don't have any plans to commercialize this, but there are other smart people on this thread who might.Well done indeed. Is this a one off project or do you plan to market this conversion ?
If so, I hope the 3/Y continues to share components that are compatible with the S/X.I think this could be something very commercially viable if stalks are totally removed from the upcoming 3/Y. The market for this could be huge.
I guess we'll find out soon, the new/refresh 3 is apparently due imminentlyIf so, I hope the 3/Y continues to share components that are compatible with the S/X.
I shopped the "make this into a thing you own and sell/support" around to many people but no one actually took me up on it. I tried, but it is probably too niche to catch on. (though with tesla deleting stalks on other vehicles, that may change. I simply don't have time to support this and do it "right", and there are significant downsides to just dumping all the info I have, unfortunately. There is still useful info on my youtube channel for folks who want to dig in.
They are for sure going to do the same on the Model Y refresh that is 100% in the works already, meaning going forward all Teslas will have no stalks (which means I'm pretty much done with Tesla, at least until such time that this kind of solution will be made available for purchase, Tesla change their mind or everyone follow suit and I have no choice)Now that they have made the same mistake on the Model 3, any chance you would reconsider this decision ?
Totally agreed, as I and others have said. I was in the Tesla SC a few weeks back, and they thought I was silly for not liking the lack of stalks, and felt it would be a huge success. Like we are some small vocal minority or something. Yeah, Tesla is in for a serious surprise, and maybe even a few lawsuits when the sh!t really hits the fan.I think there is going to be a huge aftermarket demand for a stalk kit once the masses have to deal with the POS design the stalkless cluster truck is that Elon foisted upon us S and X owners. Can't hide from the horde of likely pissed off 3/Y owners on this one.
One thing to keep in mind everyone. The Refresh S/X used the same steering column as the "stalked" 3/Y. The mechanical attachment points for the stalks are there - you just have to buy the stalks and column shroud that had the openings for the stalks. Do we know if the Highland 3/Y column is the same as the old one or did they simplify it to remove the stalk attach points? I could see Tesla going either way. They could keep using the old one to save on design and re-tooling time plus they will have plenty of spares for the OG 3/Y. But removing those stalk attach points would make the Highland 3/Y columns cheaper to produce so I could see them redesigning it without those attach points.I think there is going to be a huge aftermarket demand for a stalk kit once the masses have to deal with the POS design the stalkless cluster truck is that Elon foisted upon us S and X owners. I don’t think any Highland Model 3s have been delivered yet. Earliest is next month in Europe. One thing to keep in mind everyone. The Refresh S/X used the same steering column as the "stalked" 3/Y. If it's the latter, developing a stalk kit for the Highland 3/Y will be more involved than the Refresh S/X as they will have to build something for the stalks to attach.
Yes, but people are citing the lack of stalks in the Model 3 as an expansion of the TAM for a stalk retrofit from only Refresh S/X to all Model 3s (and I'm sure eventually Ys). My point is that it may require different kits as we don't yet know if Highland has the same steering column internals as the current vehicles.I don’t think any Highland Model 3s have been delivered yet. Exactly correct. We should see soon. I'm guessing they didn't redesign this one yet. Next gen car will likely be the complete replacement (Model '2' or whatever plus and derivatives. Could also be on the CT given all the time they've had to make engineering changes while waiting for the 4680 pack to be ready?)Yes, but people are citing the lack of stalks in the Model 3 as an expansion of the TAM for a stalk retrofit from only Refresh S/X to all Model 3s (and I'm sure eventually Ys).
