New Model Y (and 3) production details

Tomorrow Elon Musk will attend a official groundbreaking ceremony for Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, China. In a series of tweets this evening, Musk added a few details to production plans. Key points-

• Model 3 production to start at Giga3 by the end of the year
• Giga3 will be for production of more "affordable" versions of Model 3/Y for Greater China.
• Model S/X and higher cost versions of Model 3/Y will be built in the US for world market, INCLUDING China.
• Explicitly, Musk said "affordable models must be made on same continent as customers"

Where the line is for "higher cost" is anyones guess. Dual Motor with upgraded Interior? Performance Dual Motor?

Hopefully we'll get some more tidbits tomorrow.

Where the line is for "higher cost" is anyones guess. Dual Motor with upgraded Interior? Performance Dual Motor?

- Standard range battery.
- RWD only.
- No steering wheel and seats electrical adjustment.
- No fog light.
- Steel front roof part.
- Saving built time by not installing and testing EAP components.
- Limited colors and interior seat options.
...

I just hope they will not downgrade the double wishbone and independent multi-link rear suspension with less expensive components.

NeverFollow, could I bother you for the source of your list above? Didn't find anything of the sort in my brief, non-exhaustive search and am not up to speed on recent "Chinese" developments.

Really doubt the Shanghai-built Model 3 will lack a steering wheel [joke!]. Small electric motors of the kind used in interiors are dirt cheap, though.
