when elon says 'nothing planned' that just means as of right now. he doesn't want people to stop buying and wait for some improvement they think will be the 'best', not realizing that by then there will be lots of other stuff they could 'wait for'.
even if the air suspension comes to the 3, it will have already been out several years. obviously they could make the change faster on the Y if they chose, but personally i think it will add complexity and expense, and i drove a 3 yesterday and it rode just fine. i am not planning on needing off-road ground clearance.
It's a pretty firm denial from him. Maybe some day it could happen, but it is obviously years away if a company isn't even planning for it. I get the feeling they are pretty confident in demand for what they have now.
Something that could go -1 to +3 inches would be ideal. The summer highway ride height drop should even cover the increased weight from an efficiency point of view.
