GOT MY VIN

So as I was on my way home this eve I got a call from Las Vegas #. It was a Tesla rep telling me that yes I have a vin# and vehicle has been produced. She is in charge of paperwork. System does not show a delivery specialist yet but she will reach out. Oh, and I have been assigned San Francisco for delivery.

run-the-joules, don't be a hater. :p

Is your VIN still 16xx, and could this mean VIN 16xx was produced in November?

There are now 4 VINs from non-employees registered, including the one from @g-force that Tesla will re-issue. They are in the ranges 16xx, 16xx, 19xx and 20xx. I suspect all 4 are in varying stages of production, possibly still needing to pass quality control. However, there is no guarantee that this means at least 2000 cars were produced so far. Just one indication, most non-employees who ordered have NOT received a VIN so far (or are unwilling to share the fact they did).

Can someone explain why the secrecy on VINs? I understand reservation number. Is there a concern that someone will contact Tesla about a VIN going into production and request a change to the vehicle?

People being cautious with their information on-line. Same as not posting your phone number. The last two digits don't add much information to the discussion, but they give a nefarious person/ spam bot the full VIN.

Standard online security questions:
1. Mother's maiden name
2. First pets name
3. Model 3 reservation number

I was told not to go through those steps until my VIN had been assigned by my DS who I spoke to yesterday.
And I did all those steps the first day after configuring, but then when I spoke with my DS yesterday, it was like she hadn't even looked at my information yet. Here I was all proud to be finished with paperwork and she kept saying, "As soon as we get this all done, we can get you a VIN." I had done it all the first day and still no VIN. So that's obviously not important rn.

But I seem to be one of very few to order Silver so if they are matching colors already produced to orders, that could be why.

You have a DS for your 3? I've configured but I don't see anything indicating I have a Delivery Specialist yet. Just a message: "We will reach out to you to schedule your delivery date."
I feel left out. I just keep hammering my account page every few hours.

Like Esme Es Mejor said you will be near the end of the current owner group. This makes you quite important to the non-owners. Once you get your invitation we'll know that we're getting close to non-owner invitations. So please let us know when your number comes up. You'll make a lot of people here very happy.

I'd be surprised and very disappointed if this guy managed to get ahead of me, even as an owner, as a day 1, west coast, non-owner reserver. Despite buying a current tesla, someone coming in 1.5 years after opening and jumping the line would be sad. Especially considering his estimate is late 2018, and mine is currently still early 2018.

Exactly. The lack of transparency makes me assume the worst, but I suppose we'll find out eventually.

Something definitely has to be going on though. I am a non-owner and my estimates for first production are Jan-March 2018. Definitely not late 2018. I know a lot more of non-owners here that also have much sooner than late 2018 for estimates.

Because you’re an owner, you’re probably ahead of most— if not all— non-owners. But you reserved so late that you’re behind 99+% of owners. I made my reservation pretty late, but I’m months ahead of you.

Sit tight, realize that your place in line is a direct result of your actions, and enjoy that all production problems will have been worked out by the time you get your car.
I have no problem waiting, I just want to make sure I'm in the proper que.
