Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

You can definitely do that. Create a time-of-use rate plan that has Off-Peak from 12am - 6am, Super-off-peak from 11am - 2pm and use mid-peak and/or peak for the remaining times.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Canberra at least has a lot fewer of the "random traffic lane becomes turning lane" road designs and a lot more dedicated turning lanes.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Works for me, but others have had success putting it on the back of the screen, or the roof glass, or even under the lid of the box between the driver and passenger seats.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

The worst thing about driving in Sydney is bastards not letting you change lanes, which you need to do to avoid being railroaded into turning left or right where you didn't want to but it wasn't signposted until the point where traffic was already queued up to, or getting stuck in a lane...

It would be interesting to see a technical writeup of exactly what the incompatibility is.

    Charging Adaptors 101

I would definitely go the 32A circuit now if it were me. There shouldn't be any problem putting a 15A socket on it - the CB is to protect the wiring not the device. If they're suggesting a 5-pin socket, does that mean you have 3 phase supply?

    AGL’s “Night Saver Energy Plan”

The NSW/ACT region has now entered Administered Pricing due to the sustained high prices, which means the wholesale price will be capped at $600/MWh (60c/kWh) for at least the next week or so.

    AGL’s “Night Saver Energy Plan”

Sometimes they'll backdate the plan change to the start of the billing cycle.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I run it on 5. I don't see the benefit in driving right up to the next car's taillights. Makes the TACC a lot less twitchy as well.

    Tesla Electric in Australia

I don't think so, submissions are just an optional part of the process where interested parties can make their objections or support known. It seems to be still in the "buried in soft peat" stage of the process.

    Charging Adaptors 101

Go for the heavier conductors - the price difference in the cable isn't much compared to what you're paying for labour, and it'll be less voltage drop. Really you might as well get a 32A circuit to give you cheap upgrade options later.

    Single Phase Charging Options

It doesn't seem like a good idea. They probably aren't tested to run that kind of heavy load for long periods, on a regular basis, and unless you really don't drive much and are religious about plugging in, 8A is going to be pretty marginal for recharging. Adding an extra set of pins & socket in...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

It's not that surprising that the next 2 weeks are fully booked out with other deliveries. They don't aim to have delivery staff sitting around doing nothing. It could have been a lot slower - inventory vehicles aren't necessarily even in the country yet!

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

It'll default to mobile service but the service team will review it before the day, and if it's something you need to go to the service centre for they'll call you to rebook.

    Superchargers in Australia

If you're travelling to/from the snow, go via Tuggeranong instead. It's not very far off the route and it's a much faster V3 site.

    Charge On Solar Australia

It seems like a simple optimisation on Tesla's side would be to only poll the car after determining that there is excess solar available. At least it wouldn't poll the car over night then! Of course even better would be for the car to notify the Tesla servers when it's plugged in or unplugged...

How do you listen to music?

Google Pixel (6 Pro, 7 Pro, 8 Pro) and Samsung Galaxy (S21 to S24 Plus and Ultra) have UWB. I don't know if the Tesla app supports it on Android yet though.

    Superchargers in Australia

At least in Australia, most Supercharger sites (the exception are some of those at large shopping centres) required a new distribution sub as part of the build, which were sized to accomodate the site as built with little additional capacity. So expanding those sites is going to need a new...

How do you listen to music?

The "free" option (not really - some portion of the monthly Premium Connectivity fee would be going to Spotify for that ad-free account) seems to be fully functional as a car streaming option. If you don't also use it on your phone then switching to the paid option doesn't seem to buy you anything.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Don't put it in Valet Mode - that disables the access to the frunk, and the detailer will need that to apply the PPF properly around the bonnet edge. Just disable the PIN and give them a key card.

They don't register the car until the day before delivery (so you don't pay for rego you aren't using).

    Superchargers in Australia

I don't agree. That's the top-down, centrally-planned view: where do I think these things make most sense, ok, the people who own that places should be running them. I prefer the view that says: who has the most incentive for these things to exist and work well? And the answer to that is the...

    Superchargers in Australia

Having been on the Tesla train for 4 and a half years, probably the best thing about it has been the company's commitment to charging infrastructure. I've had friends who've bought other EVs go on their first long distance trip then say "maybe we should have bought a Tesla after all". So to me...

Kerbside pole-mounted chargers are now a thing

Yeah, this kind of pushback just helps illustrate that for all the trappings of democracy, most local councils are actually run by the unelected chief executive / general manager. The councillors are mostly just a figleaf.

If you want a laptop that beats the obsolesence game, check out Frame Work. Designed to be user-repairable and user-upgradeable, they sell new mainboards to upgrade older units etc.

    Single Phase Charging Options

The main benefits are that it's more suited to be installed outside (eg. if you want to access it from a carport), and as a wired-in device there's fewer plug & socket connections in the way which each have the potential to degrade. A minor one is that the wall connecto also doubles as a hook to...

How do you listen to music?

I have a large music collection (my era is the CD though), and in my first car I installed a multistacker in the boot - but I have to say that streaming has really nailed the convenience aspect. My teenager can put the newest albums on in the car the day they're released, and I can play whatever...

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

I'm not sure whether preconditioning the cabin also preconditions the battery. Maybe someone with an OBD scanner can let us know. The scheduled departure/scheduled charging setup is supposed to be location-aware, though.

You hit the 'camera' icon from the bottom tray - the one that has the red light when sentry is on. It's possible to get there through the menus too, probably under Safety & Security.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I've had all my favourites disappear after an update too, but they definitely are stored in the cloud-synced account, because my favourites appeared in the Tesla service centre loaner vehicle. No idea how they get lost when an update goes wrong though.

Tasmanian Fast / Ultra Fast chargers

They make most of their money tempting you with a mars bar and a coke in the attached shop, so EV charging looks pretty attractive to them I reckon.

Tesla owner who falsely claimed car was in autopilot before Melbourne crash pleads guilty

    AGL’s “Night Saver Energy Plan”

None of the distributors have competition (except for "go completely off-grid") - they're the ones that own the "poles & wires" that take power from the long-distance transmission infrastructure and distribute it to the consumers. For this reason though, they don't get to set their own prices...
