Would you trade in an original MY SR for a new MY?

So we were lucky enough to snatch one of the OG SRs (7 seater) back in 2021 when they were released for like a 6 week period. Car has been great these three years, zero complaints or issues, but we have been toying with the thought of trading it for a newer Y LR.

That said, given the relative scarcity of this SR (no idea how many were produced but it couldn't have been many) and the fact that we haven't really had any issues, is this something that would be worth holding on to?

*Would also love to hear from some other original SR owners on their thoughts and experiences :)

We had a standard range Raven S that we traded for a Long Range Y and absolutely no regrets. Since you're debating going from SRY to LRY, if it was me I would certainly do it. I like the lower price/instant tax rebate now, extra range, updated MCU, HEPA filter, comfort suspension, etc...but it would also suck losing ultrasonic sensors IMO.

I only see Standard Range models losing more value over time compared to a used Long Range. The "rarity" of an SR Y does not increase its appeal, especially when range is paramount for an EV.

Appreciate all of the insight here. Trade in from Tesla came back at ~28k for the SR which currently has 15k miles. About in line with what I figured if not slightly higher.

That said, may wait and see if Tesla cuts a bit deeper with these model Y discounts. Also tempting to just wait with Juniper so close.

I have a 2021 MY SR. Only had one small issue (oil pump), although I have a rattle that developed near the VIN plate left/front speaker. Fairly common rattle I have discovered. I will see if I can fix that. Otherwise the car has been great. I did test drive a 2023 MY and it's basically the same car when you drive it. Some notable improvements, yes, but I came away after the test drive underwhelmed and decided at that point to wait for Juniper. There just wasn't enough difference to justify changing.

I was thinking to upgrade as well but i have a 2021 MY LR. Trade in came at $26,100 and car has 40k miles. Didn't make sense for me to trade in while i owed $24k on the loan. Basically means I was leasing the car If i did the deal and was paying $1k/month. Just going to keep my car , and loving every day with it. Maybe 2 years down the line, i'll just get the Refresh Rivian R1S or maybe a new Model Y Juniper

The new rear wheel drive model has huge new range if you are content without 4WD and extra power. Don't worry about the ultrasonic sensors, the new vision parking assist is a great improvement. Ultrasonics never helped with curb rash. There are also new features that you can only get with the new faster computer.
