Moral: Don't engage lockers when they shouldn't be engaged, i.e. solid road.

My Subaru would do the same thing with it's 4WD fonrt/back engagement.
My Bronco II would so the same thing with it's auto-locking hubs.

You've got to relieve the torque before they will unlock!
