Should it play then going forward?...I would like it to.

It probably does but is very subtle. Park close to a wall with the window down, select drive and you should hear it making a noise. It’s not the same noise and not as loud but it should be there.

Is it loud enough? Maybe. I was walking down a road and could hear a car slowly following me. Turned around and it was a Model Y. Similar experience if it was an ICE vehicle or some other EVs. Some EVs are more obvious but that’s probably because they have a different noise.

I wouldn’t want it any less obvious and probably would like it to be slightly louder in areas where ambient noise is louder.

Forward PWS is limited to a volume that is supposed to be about the level of a modern ICE engine, and even its frequency is regulated.

Reverse is just that obnoxious screech..

Honestly I tend to find there are 2 types of pedestrian anyway. Ones that are alert and aware of what is around them, if it makes a sound or not.

Ones that are just blissfully unaware and your EV could be going off like an air raid siren and they would still be strolling across the car park in front of you.
