Windscreen replacement what to check?

My M3 is going back to Autoglass for the second warranty visit after poor fitting of the screen.

Had a wind whistle after I picked it up, checked and found that they hadn't installed the clips that secure the scuttle panel properly and just tried to ram it down and cracked the scuttle panel. I obviously complained and they got it back 6 weeks later to replace the scuttle with a new one. In that time, the screen had gained 2 small cracks on the left hand side about half way up where it mounts to the car frame.
The new scuttle was also not fitted properly, there are 2 trim clips in the centre and these weren't clipped into the body below the screen, a senior tech came out to look, realised that the mounts on the new scuttle panel were broken, and also found that 5 of the clips that secure the frunk liner were also broken, he then told me that when they had replaced the screen, it hadn't been fitted correctly, there is a piece of trim that is bonded to the bottom of the screen, this was in an incorrect position, so it wouldn't matter what they did, the scuttle panel would never fit correctly. So for the last few weeks, I have removed the trim clips and duct taped the scuttle panel down to stop the whistling.
Autoglass are now replacing - The screen, the trim, another scuttle panel, and all the clips.
Check the scuttle panel when you collect, it should be flush with the bottom of the screen, if not, you WILL get a wind whistle at motorway speeds, apart from the piss poor fitting, Autoglass have been very good, freely admitted that the fitting was incorrect and have been very proactive towards sorting it out.

My Autoglass replacement was pretty good.
BUT
Take lots of photos before Including close ups at the corners and along the edges and under the frunk so if anything is not flush etc they cannot say "they are all like that". or " it was like that before"

I suspect if they knock cameras badly out of alignment (imho no reason with a bit of care that they should) they do have to physically adjust something otherwise just run a basic recalibration like user has access to. Latter is certainly all Tesla did with ours - nothing in invoice like some got for a recalibration item line.

Apparently Autoglass need to use “specialist equipment” which is brought in from another branch to do the recalibration. They also turn a 3 hour appointment into a 5 hour appointment. Makes me wonder what they are doing….

They are following the Tesla workshop procedure to do a camera alignment then a drive to finish the calibration/test. They took mine on an 8 mile drive, including a section of dual carriageway.

Guys, in the usa we hate that type of glass installer due to low quality installs
Our is called Safellite

Why did Tesla not install the glass? Even if Insurance paid for
Autoglass are a specialist windscreen installer that is all they do so they are actually generally pretty good at it.
Possibly better than your average Tesla tech who has done it a couple of times.
I think I heard of Tesla service centres actually subcontracting windscreen replacement to Autoglass on occasion but I might be wrong about that.

BUT

the main reason is many UK insurers have deals with Autoglass and mandate them as the contractor for replacement windscreens, my insurer Admiral Does and they are one of the largest insurers in the UK.

When my M3 rear glass was replaced under warranty in February , it was done at a Tesla SC by Autoglass. Replacement work is then signed off by Tesla to make sure it is done to their standards.

Autoglass state that the appointment takes longer as after they replace the screen “they have to plug in via the obd port and get Tesla to dial into the car to recalibrate the cameras”. Seems crazy when you can just press the button in the car. Is this bull?

I'm guessing it takes them quite a while indeed since newer Teslas don't have an OBD port...
