The days of window tinting just being about privacy are gone. If you are a Tesla owner, the days of purchasing cheap window tint should also be gone. Providing high-quality window tints on these extraordinary vehicles is not something you want to leave to amateurs or a company that is not used to working on the large roof glass and other Tesla components.

One thing to keep in mind, a poorly done tint job not only looks horrible but given the amount of water and soap that is used, it can destroy your interior. There have even been cases where so much water was used that it damaged the ECU.

Ten Steps To Getting the Perfect Window Tint

1. Utilize a company that is a trained and certified tint manufacturer. One good place to look is elitedealer.com . We recently flew the lead trainer from Ceramic Pro to our location to work with our team on Tesla windshields and roof glass. Although we are already an elite dealer, dedication to training is very important.

2. Understand the laws in your state. Imagine spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on having your windows tinted only to fail inspection. We find this website to be useful. Car Tinting Laws – Window tint laws in United States

3. Know the warranty. A good window tint should have a lifetime warranty that is valid nationwide and transferrable.

4. Know the numbers and terms you want to know

VLT: Visible Light Transmission. Expressed as a percentage, the higher the number, the more light that comes in and the lighter the film. The darker the film the lower the number. This is the number that will likely determine if your vehicle is 'legal'.

IR: Infrared Rejection. This number directly relates to heat rejection. The higher the number, the better

TSER: This measures the total solar energy rejection of the tint.

Glare Reduction: This should be pretty self-explanatory.

5. Know the Film You Want (and don't want)

Stay away from dyed, metallic, and hybrid films. Be very cautious of anything marked CS. If it is a Carbon film, it is acceptable but not ideal for a Tesla. So what is ideal?

Ceramic Tint for the side and rear windows is going to work great with an LVT of 35% or less. The combination of the tint shade and the ceramic will block ample heat. For areas like the windshield and roof glass, you want a high-end ceramic, like Ultimate IR. Traditionally you want an LVT of 70-80%

6. Ask the tint company to keep the vehicle inside until it is dry.

As previously mentioned, a lot of water is used when tinting. It is important to have it dry slowly.

7. Do not roll down or wash your windows for 2-3 days

8. No cleaners with ammonia

9. Furry friends will scratch tint. Keep that in mind.

10. Tint always looks its worst for two weeks. A light haze should be expected.
