18 months is end of 2022.
So will those 1.5 million Ys in 2022 all be 2170 or something? Thought Berlin at least was 100% for sure 4680 and Austin Y and CT was expected to be too?
Though at the same time, they confirmed that they're doubling battery capacity orders from suppliers for next year. So if they're targeting 1 million for this year.....seems like they're shooting for 2 million in 2022
I thought this was a for sure known thing
But the places and products that will be using them wont be at volume production levels earlier either. Really look at as 4680 cells will be used in Austin and Berlin. As the plant is ramping up with car production they will also be ramping up with 4680 cell production.

I will have to go back and re-listen, but I thought they were talking "fully ramp" 4680s, not initial production.

That could easily have an impact on model y ramp up in both Berlin and Austin.
Fremont Y's 2170.
Austin and Berlin Y's 4680. Maybe limited to the Performance versions to start.

They said volume production 12-18 months.
I dunno that you can build a million Ys in Austin and Berlin in 2022, plus however many CTs and Plaid+ cars will need 4680s, without volume battery production

im sure we will have some 4680s soon. When elon says volume production, i think he is talking VOLUME production. He probably thinks a million vehicles isnt a lot
So much to say, so little time. I do with Elon would let the other members of his team answer the majority of the questions as he has a tendency to get ahead of himself.
I also believe that Elon has been advised over and over again to not be overly optimistic with release dates and actually sand bag thing. I think the FSD beta again taught him a lesson we though he had learned previously. I feel especially when it comes to hardware related production. Cars, factories, batteries, etc. etc. Not to mention software estimating is always a crap shoot and FSD beta is pure software at this point.im sure we will have some 4680s soon.
