Sometimes there may be a good reason. Ever notice that handicapped parking spaces are noticeably wider than a standard space? My wife is handicapped. If you have ever helped someone who can barely stand get into a wheelchair, you will know that the door must be opened all the way. Seldom possible with a car parked next to you in a standard space. If a handicapped space is not available, I will do this in a very out of the way space so we are not impacting anyone else. I would rather push the wheelchair an extra hundred feet than risk a fall or damage someone else's car. Handicapped credentials are prominently displayed for what it is worth. I have done this for many years with several different vehicles. No problems so far. I've also done this in the plain view of police and they never said a thing.
