Tesla in Tampa

Your point about deliveries is a good one but there won't be a ramp up in deliveries until production is in full swing.

Agreed, perhaps my remark alluding to deliveries this month was premature. However, if Elon is to be believed then we are going to see a very significant ramp up in October-November and Tesla should do whatever it can to bring the Tampa service center on-line in that timeframe.

A Tampa service center at International Plaza is fantasitic in my opinion. I could literally get the S serviced during a football game :)

Orlando is probably the best place for the actual dealership as well - it will promote the brand to more national and international travellers. Does anybody know if the Orlando facility will also be able to provide service or is it just a showroom?

For Tampa Service think I-75/I-4/SR301 triangle, it's service only so far.

For Orlando think Millennia Mall so very unlikely there will be service there.
Nigel, somebody posted pictures of a bunch of Model S's at the proposed Tampa Service Center but did not provide the address. (secret?) So it sounds like it didn't end up @ International Plaza. Where you mention would probably be best overall as it is a bit closer for the Orlando folks, but a few miles farther for me (and you). i suppose you would come straight up 75 and skip 275.

Ha, dinosaurs not allowed in FL unless they're grey-haired and driving cadillacs!

And driving 45-50 in the left lane of I-75!

Exactly. It's an easy trip from Sarasota.

Which is exactly the same drive (actually Brandon to Sarasota) I was doing when I came the closest I have ever come to hitting something (going faster than 5mph). I was cruising at about 80-85 (my Dodge Neon maximum practical speed, well above the maximum safe speed) and there was a grey-haired dinosaur going about 30 in the left lane (the other two lanes were empty). I didn't realize it fast enough, missed them by inches and almost lost control of my car.

And where is the future Tampa service center exactly? I might need to swing by some time to have a look-see.
I don't know exactly where it is, but I think NigelM does. Apparently it's near the Hard Rock / Amphitheater (in the triangle formed by I75/I4/US301) East of Tampa. When I inquired to Tesla on whether or not my car was actually there, they said "not yet, but on its way"

Me? Nooooo....OK, here it is:

1907 N U.S. Highway 301, Suite 170
Tampa, FL 33619

Not officially open yet though. I believe that construction is finished, not sure if it's all fitted out yet. It's about 4 miles from the Seminole Hard Rock Casino so if you've got any money left after buying Model S you can pop over there and gamble while your car is being serviced.

I'm hoping that they don't have their official opening celebration until next year. If so, I'd like to organize a club meeting to coincide with the opening. The Seminole Hard Rock Casino would be an excellent place to gather afterwards.

Sorry the pictures aren't any better but I went by in stealth mode. There was quite a bit of activity inside and it looked like they were still working on moving in. I could see at least two Model S inside.

Larry, I'm also looking forward to their grand opening celebration. Yes, Hard Rock would be a great gathering spot, though I don't think there are any charging stations there (yet)

I have visited the shop several times in the past 2 weeks. I'm sure Mark and Aaron wouldn't mind if you stopped in to say hi. The shop looks great, all the equipment is installed and only needs some final touches and a sign above the door.

Very cool. They might be prepping my Model S at this very moment. The facility certainly seems to be ahead of the proposed opening schedule which I believe was March '13. These are guys I definitely want to "get to know". Thanks for the info.
