Superchargers in Northern California (location speculation)

I agree this is likely the case. However, it's currently strange given that this is the "Find Us" map that you can't tell the difference between planned superchargers and existing superchargers that will be expanded. The map is currently useless for actually planning a trip.
Nor is it intended to be used for that purpose since you can't enter a destination and see a proposed route. That is what the in-car nav is for.

Don't judge the location of the coming soon pins. They appear to be mainly located at the city rather than actual location.
Yes, the new Supercharger map released today shows many "Coming Soon" locations that appear to simply be in the approximate center of a town or city. But it shows many other such locations fairly precisely. See the 3 SF city locations, each has a different name and a location that is consistent with the name. See the new San Mateo Hillsdale location: it is located right at the Hillsdale Mall on Hillsdale Ave. Nothing approximate about that.

Looks like S. Lake Tahoe should be on the list as well (maybe the outlet stores near the Y)?

Yeah, that was the location I scanned to the list expecting to find, after Folsom there isn't anything on the south side until you get deep into Nevada unless you want a slow charge at one of the casinos.

Y would be great, that area is really growing - and I have a house right there, too. :)

No, Stateline, NV is on the map. Probably going to go in at one of the casinos. I would not be surprised if the map is being updated to be more correct. I notice that the second Roseville location now says CA rather than MI, at least when I look at it.

Still nothing on 280. I guess am the only to think a scenic stop by the lakes with hawks overhead would be cool! I know, I know, getting that much power to such a location would be tough.
And there are no existing large parking lots.
Wishful thinking!

Being one of the unlucky souls with no access to home charging, the new sites in San Mateo (and Daly City. And San Francisco! The Mission, really? Wow!) will definitely help! Good stuff Tesla!

Cupertino is on 280 too.

It sounds like you are thinking of the section of the 280 from Los Alto Hills to Millbrae. That is the "scenic" section, in my opinion (I live a 1/2 mile from the 280, near the 92 intersection).

Along that section of the 280 there are relatively few multi-unit dwellings (yes there are some, but it is overwhelmingly detached housing) places where inhabitants might have difficulty installing home charging. So there is not as much need for "local charging". In SF, along the 101, and in the South Bay much of the housing is multi-unit and there clearly is a need for local charging. It appears that Tesla's Supercharger plan addresses that. Of course looking out just a few years from now there will be many more Superchargers needed in that urban area. But the new Supercharger map is showing the near term plan (2017 - 2018 is my guess). The Supercharger network will keep growing.

Actually when I clicked on it I found that it was actually Marin City, so that's probably cheaper. I imagine the parking spaces are cheaper in Sausalito than at the three planned stations in San Francisco though.
I would guess that the San Francisco stations will have valet service for maximizing utilization and minimizing ICE parking seekers. I could see a situation with very compressed charging stations in the same style as some of the valet parking lots in the area. Cars back to back.

Tesla has already enabled travel up the East side of the Sierras and Cascades except for this gap between Reno and Klamath Falls.
Yup. If Tesla ever fills in this gap I'll have to stop saying that supercharger coverage in California is inadequate. As it stands, Tesla will just have to keep building lots of California superchargers until they get it right.:)

Touché.

I will admit that I haven't had cause to drive through Cali with my X yet so I can't comment on the current spacing or density (or lack thereof) of superchargers. Yes, there are more Tesla vehicles in and around the bay area and LA than anywhere else on Earth, but like many others railing against the lack of superchargers where THEY want them to make THEIR travels more convenient, I'm adding mine. I'm much more likely to make the trip down this route than I-5 (been there, done that, it's boring :p;)).

Then what is the "Find Us" map intended for? I have definitely used it before sitting at home thinking where we might go for a weekend to see what's practical with the Model S. I'm not going out to the garage to plan a trip.

Anyway, they've mostly fixed it. Existing superchargers are back in red. Now it would be nice if they had a separate toggle for the future superchargers so you could see current superchargers and destination chargers without the future ones cluttering the screen.

@MikeBur - Why did you think this was funny? I'm being serious. Tesla has already enabled travel up the East side of the Sierras and Cascades except for this gap between Reno and Klamath Falls.
Oops, was meant to be love as it was informative.. and I know that gap and have had to us chademo in Klamath falls previously. damn fat fingers. Sorry - corrected :)

Logic, really? ;-) Am just a dreamer, thinking of long-distance travel. One day, I hope we can get Superchargers along highways in scenic spots and at rest stops. To make those stops enjoyable to those not looking for an upscale shopping mall every few hours. :)

Carry-on, this is awesome!

I'd love spots with hiking or walking trails. I'm not very adept at sitting idle for long periods of time, and would love to stretch out somewhere away from the busy outlet mall.
