Supercharger — Baker City, OR

We really need to be able to drive from California to Boise, ID. This enables the Northwest to get there through Pendleton/Baker City, but we are missing just a 2-stall charger in Jordan Valley to connect us from Winnemucca! :)

Excited for this one though. We may take round-a-bout road trip because of this!

I'd put in my vote for Jordan Valley.

We like to travel that way on our way from eastern Washington to Reno. Haven't been able to travel that way for several years now.

They have applied for a permit for 8 stations in Boise. As soon as Boise been completed, it will make Elko in reach. And from Elko, it is a piece of cake to Winnemucca.

Just back from Baker City and they are making progress. Cement is done and the transformer is in place.

Thanks for sharing - with this completed, my wife will be able to go into Boise for concerts and shopping with our Tesla - as long as she stays overnight to recharge for the trip back to Baker City.

Wait - what??? Do I really want this completed??!!
You don't need Baker City to make this. Boise to Pendleton either direction is pretty reasonable if you don't speed and it's not Winter. Baker City would be needed in Winter or for the 60kwh version cars. I know a couple who has done it multiple times, and we're going on a trip in July from Boise to Portland, where we'll do it straight, even if Baker City isn't done yet.

Ah - but I am just a bit further from Boise than Pendleton is, and would have to backtrack over to Pendleton, while Baker City is right on the way and convenient. Plus, while I'm willing to take a risk on range, my wife prefers to take other types of risks, like skydiving or shark diving ;-)

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. Then I would suggest this, which isn't too bad. Make a meal stop in Ontario, at the Clarion Inn and eat at their restaurant. They have at least one 14-50 outlet out front that they have shared on Plugshare with several check-ins. About an hour there, while you eat, should give that extra to cover that trip.

At the Wildhorse Resort and Casino Supercharger Grand Opening in Pendleton, was told on 11 June 2015 the cement is poured and movement to installation is proceeding at a pace. Talked to the Best Western 18 June 2015 they do not have any further information.

Go figure

Jordan Valley would be good. Rome is fine too, but there really is nothing there (it splits the distance better between Winnemucca and Boise). That is the hole that needs plugging to enable the California - Boise link. Hey Dmck, don't forget to suggest the location here:

As far as "the hole that needs plugging to enable the California - Boise link", it's not THAT bad even as it is now. There is a guy from the Reno area who has done the Winnemucca to Boise drive in one shot without charging a couple of times and charged at my house in Boise. It's on the ragged edge of an 85's range, but doable. On the way back, there is elevation gain, so he charges for about an hour in Jordan Valley to give enough margin to complete it. That's still not that bad.

I guess I am oversimplifying a little. It's decent now, when it's warm. That will use a lot more energy in Winter, so the Jordan Valley stop would need to be longer. I suppose I just see little likelihood of a Supercharger there, so trying to arrange for a HPWC seems a more effective pursuit.

A SC in Jordan Valley will probably mean just 10 -20 minutes for an 85 (it's that close to being a no stop route). A 60 or 70 will, of course depend on a JV SC.
Then again, for an 85, you can open it up on that route cuz you get a refill in JV - not that any of us would exceed a safe speed limit.

...just sayin

Update:
We just pulled out of Baker city where the Tesla tech is doing his Final Inspection. He says that once he gets to a SC everything else is done, done, done. Power company hookups, electrical inspector, everything. Once a SC passes his inspection, they flip the switch and it's up and running. "So when?" I says, and he says, "If everything is 100% perfect and I find no problems, it will be open for charging tomorrow."
So, RUMOR HAS IT that Baker City could be live tomorrow.

"Nothing is ever 100%"
