Posting this in case it helps someone who finds themselves in the same predicament...
I just returned my leased 2019 Model 3 and took delivery on a 2022 Model S LR. Both vehicles were equipped with Homelink, and I had no difficulty programming the Model 3 Homelink to work with my electric front gate and my Genie Intellicode garage door opener. However, I had a devil of a time getting Homelink in the new Model S to work with the Genie Intellicode opener. I followed the on-screen programming instructions until I was blue in the face, and the car said that everything was successful but clicking on the "Tesla Garage" softkey would not trigger the Genie opener. Arggghhh!
Finally, I decided to go back to first principles and research exactly how a regular Genie Intellicode remote is programmed to the Genie opener. What I learned was that after putting the opener into "learn mode" it was necessary to press the key on the remote 4 or 5 times in order for the learning process to "take." I verified this by reprogramming one of the unused keys on my three-key Genie remote. Sure enough, it took 5 button presses before the opener's learn-mode light went out and the new key was learned.
I suspected that maybe the Tesla Homelink software wasn't doing that, so...
I re-did the Tesla Homelink programming procedure one more time as directed. Then as soon as it said it was successful, I quickly brought up the "Tesla Garage" softkey and pressed on it several times in succession. (This needs to be done quickly, because the Genie operator only remains in learn mode for about 20 seconds before it times out.) Sure enough, after a couple of softkey presses, the opener activated and Homelink has been working flawlessly with my Genie opener ever since.
Tesla needs to tweak its Homelink software, but in the meantime maybe this will save someone else from going through the blue-in-the-face routine that I did.
