Keep in mind any pre-production cars produced during this time period are probably for testing out the manufacturing line. They'll probably never see customer hands.
Not even for test drives?

Maybe drivealong at the #3 party? Not even for test drives?
Not sure why HUD is even needed, with FSD car, multiple cameras and radars, prob more important is faster processing power and faster communication b/w car and mothership-servers.
It's extremely rare that I join the Spelling Police, but I seriously thought for a moment that there was a Roadshow sauce.
I'm betting that was supposed to be sources? But if not, how does it taste on ribs?
It's extremely rare that I join the Meme Education Task Force, but here goes...
Sauce | Know Your Meme
there have been no other reports from anyone else about the pre production on the 20th - every source I've seen just references the Reuters article.
Separately, sources told Reuters that the luxury electric carmaker planned to begin test-building the Model 3 on Feb. 20.
As painful as it may be we all need to start thinking that maybe this is not a valid report. So far the only thing Tesla has confirmed is the factory shutdown and there have been no other reports from anyone else about the pre production on the 20th - every source I've seen just references the Reuters article.
On the other hand, if they are shutting down to get the final pieces in place for Model 3 production, it may not be too far down the road that they really do start producing some betas.
True, they do need to do that, and we all want it to be sooner rather than later. I guess I was just cautious since I assume every other site that reports on EVs would be scrambling to confirm what Reuters reported and no one has actually done so yet. On the other hand, Tesla is very good at keeping things close to the vest - I assume we'll find out for sure during the call on the 22nd.That's possibly why they titled it "Exclusive"
It's not necessarily false. Producing one or two cars to validate the systems is a logical conclusion and in line to the tasks Tesla has officially said they were doing.
The two reports line up. Confirmed the line is shutting down for Model 3 retooling. They've even told the Australian buyers that their car builds are being pushed back because of the line shutdown. So the pre-production starting on the 20th is the logical outcome of that shutdown. As painful as it may be we all need to start thinking that maybe this is not a valid report. Pre-production makes it sound like they are near production... it's technically "pilot production". This is where they test new methods, processes, or manufacturing systems. So the pre-production starting on the 20th is the logical outcome of that shutdown.
Right. Pilot production. Brain fart.Pre-production makes it sound like they are near production... it's technically "pilot production". This is where they test new methods, processes, or manufacturing systems.
I agree 100%, it even lines up nicely with the planned call on the 22nd. I'm just saying that until we actually have confirmation we shouldn't get too carried away. The two reports line up. So....?
Yes. In car assembly plants, there are production trials before beginning building of customer cars. Here's how we did it at the Mercedes assembly plant in AL:Pre-production makes it sound like they are near production... it's technically "pilot production". This is where they test new methods, processes, or manufacturing systems.
