- pretty interesting.. I also remember reading a presentation, conducted by some japanese group for another group, forecasting that battery cost per kwh would drop to 1/30 by 2030. Alas, I can't find the link again But it would seem consistent with the above link.

NEDO also analyzed battery cost (not a cell but a battery pack) as of March 2009. It estimates that the cost is about ¥200,000/kWh (approx US$2,016/kWh) for both types of batteries.

If this is true, then Roadster's ESS "costs" about what they charge for the whole car. It's probably "easy" to attain halving the cost, when the initial estimate is so high. In fact, EV Components retails packs for ~$440/kWh!
