Plugged with charging stopped, would it use the grid to precondition or battery?

Solution
Depends. If you don’t use any scheduled departure, or schedule charging, then it uses grid. If you do use them, then battery, even if plugged in. I really wish they had an option. It’s probably like that because of CA ToU rate plans. The programmers don’t know a world exists outside CA.
What is better for the battery:
Charging slow 110V 12A, or fast 220V 22A, or even faster 42A?

All of those rates of charging are so slow (way less than 1C), so there's really not that much difference in terms of battery longevity.

But 120V is quite a bit less efficient in terms of how many kWh your utility will bill you vs how many kWh make it into the battery.

You've given three options there, and they are:
Slow, slow, and slow. None of them are "fast" or "faster".

The car's battery is built to take over 200 kW power level from Superchargers. You're asking about the difference between like 1.5 kW or 11 kW. To the car, they are nothing and are all extremely low charging power, so it doesn't care at all.
