Parking brake not set , vehicle may be free rolling

The last few days I have been getting this message on my screen when I put the car in park on occasion. When it happens I put it back in drive and then again in park and it goes away. Any idea why ? Thanks.

No, but I never have in over a year. 1st time this happened was yesterday, and twice today. Doesn't happen all the time. Don't know if I should schedule service or just wait a few days.

Then you have never set the “parking brake.” Only put it into “park.” Notice how the message says “Parking brake not set”

I understand what you are saying, but why hasn't this message popped up in the last 15 months and just started yesterday. Just seems strange.

I noticed your ((P)) symbol on the message is orange. Perhaps an system error? Try holding the P down on the stalk and see if you get that same orange on the top of your screen. If so, then your parking brake isnt working properly

I found the following in the owner's manual:

The parking brake automatically engages when you
shift Model Y into Park, and releases when you shift into
any other gear.

If the parking brake experiences an
electrical issue, the amber parking brake
indicator lights up and a fault message
displays at the top of the touchscreen.

So if I hold the park in it will turn on and the light will turn red. But I tried pulling in and out of my garage numerous times, and about 1/3 of the time I get that error message. The other 2/3 it is normal, no errors.

So manually setting the parking brake works but it will not auto set to park correctly. Maybe just a software problem. Try doing a system reset. If that doesnt work, call Tesla service and in the meantime, just manually set the parking brake when you park

Because the parts are the same and I have both .

Ended up replacing the right rear caliper today. No charge.
