Odd Noise between 20-50mph (Sounds like dentist drilling, Subway rail screeching, or a Lathe cutting metal?)

Basically that they heard the noise so they believe me, but they have no idea what was causing it. So they "guessed" and said it was some part in the front of the car. and they ordered that part. So the next time I come in, they are going to install it and see if the noise is still there.
I didn't tell them that I am looking to exercise my lemon law fee. I am just going to give them three visits to fix it, and then apply for lemon law.
Don't tell them that you are planning on doing that. they may treat you differently and may not write down the things they did like they should.

yea i definitely am not saying anything. But I truly hope they can fix it to be honest. I don't feel like going through a process to get a new car. But i'm dedicated to get rid of this sound.
I am with you but when I first mentioned it they said it was normal but I do not remember hearing that when I test drove the 2022 cars. I wonder if they did something to the drive units in the 2023. If I heard this while test driving, I would not have gotten this car. It is annoying!

good luck with lemon law lol, nothing is stopping the car from functioning, no feature is not working, lemon law will not work in this case what so ever

i

I have both sounds!!. I took a video clip of it too and not sure what it is to tell them to look for.
Oh both sounds, double the fun!

Are you planning on getting another Tesla? I'd just wonder if the new one would do the same thing, I sort of suspect they all do it now.

Did you drive the 2022 cars when it was warm out? I found the noise goes away when it's 60-70+ degrees. The other forum has lots of cars from 2022 and a few from late 2021 that have the noise, nothing earlier, so my guess is it's some design/part/manufacture change at the end of 2021.

I test drove 2022 during March 2022 through November 2022. A few seasons.

lemon law does applies to all issues -- not just issues that stop the car from functioning. As a matter of fact, the lemon law states issues that are dangerous/serious (which include issues that stop the car from functioning) warrants only 1 service visit before you can exercise your rights.

Any other "issue" takes 3 service visits -- and they specifically mention noises as a justified issue.

the thing is it wont hold up because this wont be classified as an "issue" sadly

how is this not an issue when i took it to the service center, they heard the noise and said it wasn't supposed to sound like that, and they ordered a part to repair it?
because they can always go back on their word especially when others have gone in and they have said either they cant hear the noise even with the driver in the car who says they can or they say its normal, hey a wish you the best. i have the noise as well, just waiting till the spring to bring it in whenever i have time.

So the beauty of this situation is that Tesla specifically points out sounds that are "normal" in the manual -- and obviously this sound is not listed. Everyone with this issue who "accept" that the Service Centers are saying its normal or within spec should understand that this is exactly what the lemon law is for. And besides the lemon law, you should keep fighting to get rid of the sound as long as your warranty is active. This is not a normal sound, and plenty of Y owners have absolutely no idea of this sound.

I do understand that those outside of your lemon law period may have just want to "live with it" -- totally get that, as the process is frustrating.

the interesting thing is in the car i can hear it, my fiance cant, i have had 4 other people in the car driving and only 1 out of the 4 can hear it even though when i am in the car with them i can hear it each time

I've had friends who heard it in my car, even with music on. And i have to lie to them lol "thats the sound of the batteries warming up" lol.

Also to that point, i will add, this sound can definitely impact the value of your vehicle. Imagine if you had to resale the vehicle and the buyer took it for a test drive and heard this sound. Put yourself in that buyer's shoes.

So for Georgia's lemon law's there are two criteria for the problem at hand -- your issue must meet one of these two:
  • It is covered under the manufacturer’s warranty (or, in legal terms, “it renders the new motor vehicle nonconforming to a manufacturer’s warranty”).
  • It substantially impairs the motor vehicle’s use, value, or safety.
So for this noise, it actually meets both. The service center is fixing my issue as this noise is covered under the Tesla manufacturers warranty for non-common sounds (which can indicate an issue with an actual mechanical part). Also, this sound would substantially impair the vehicles value (beyond a door ding, or a scratch, or your glove box door rattling).

I checked NY lemon law and it said 4 service visits.

bruh after the 3rd visit they told me to stop coming back. I'm going to go in for a fourth today hehe

Getting this weird noise -- not even sure where its coming from, sometimes the rear cabin, sometimes its like right under me.

But it sounds high pitched -- very different from acceleration whine from the motors. As a matter of fact, it happens when im either accelerating OR decelerating.
Again, it sounds like screeching at a high level like subway rails etc etc and i hear it between 20-50mph, but mostly around 45~mph.

I've done some research and it seems like some people are experiencing this, and Tesla is basically saying its not fixable and shouldn't be an issue, or "within spec". I don't accept that as a response, as this is in no way listed in the manual under "expected noises", and its very jarring and irritating -- cutting through music, phone calls, etc etc. Its not consistent, but its frequent, which is also an indicator it is not a common trait of the vehicle.

Has Tesla successfully fixed this for anyone that has had this issue? I am going to take it in for servicing, and will exercise GA's lemon law rule if I am unable to get a repair (which is 3 service visits and its not repaired you can request a full refund or replacement vehicle). I love my car, so i would end up getting it again lol -- just want this damn noise to go away.

Thanks
Yes... got it fixed today. They swapped my motor.

This intermittent, ultra-high pitched squealing between 50 and 70 mph in my 2023 has gotten really bad as of late, to the point where I'm working from home because I dread operating the vehicle. I haven't filed a ticket yet because I'm more than half convinced they will claim not to hear it or just say they all do that. We are strongly considering trading it in on something else and just eating the loss.

That is a huge loss to take a hit. keep trying. I will keep trying and go to different service centers. I have about 6 within a hour of where I live.

I filed a lemon law on it and Tesla sent a specialist to come check out the car. Engineering said the noise is normal twice, but on Monday the specialist will decide. Either way I'm going to pursue a buyback.
