For what it is worth...I went for my first test drive the other day. One of the items I wanted to check on was the perceived noise compared to my Lexus LS460.
I was in a 85D with 19" wheels. Wow, what a nice ride!
I could tell there was more noise than my LS460, but not enough to make me worry about it.
Not to long ago I was in a friends car, and it was kind-of hard to talk with the highway noise. That is what I wanted to avoid.
The model S has that covered! No longer an issue for me.

I think you did the right thing by experiencing the ride in the Model S to give you a comparative to the Lexus...that said, for most, the vastly superior enjoyment of driving the Model S (vs. an ICE vehicle) makes any noise differential practically immaterial imo. :wink:
