M3P MY20 - groaning / creaking noise on lock

Hi All,

Got my new car yesterday (yay!).

I've got a couple of cosmetic gripes that will need to be sorted out by service (the usual stuff - front wing alignment with the pillar etc.) but nothing serious.

I have noticed a creaking / groaning sound when winding on lock, in either direction. On other cars, I'd say it sounds like a worn or dry ball joint, or a problem with the strut top mount.

Is this common? who else has had this problem and did you get it resolved?. what was required to get it fixed?

Something like this?

You have to crank the volume all the way up to hear it in the video, but it was really loud in person. Front passenger control arm replaced.

Similar sort of squeak, but it only does it going from lock to lock rather than over bumps.

Sounds like a dry bushing or ball joint?

I think I'm having same issue as OP. I haven't been able to record it - doesn't always happen. When it does, it's normally when the steering wheel is full lock in either direction. Hard to describe the sound.
