Well thanks to car on-board checkup process, this did not happen. The 240V line it contacted was the one after the contactor so it was not live unless the contactor was closed. The car probably checks the conductivity between all pins before signaling for contactor closing. That saved me

You could probably resurrect the HPWC as a unit with OpenEVSE hardware. The case is a little tight, but it might be doable. Someone will probably want it.
