how normal is it for center screen to crash and lose functionality?

I have a question, hopefully somebody can answer. The screen itself doesn't 'crash'; that's the software. So my question is if the screen has all the electronics inside, or is it a separate module? If Tesla replaced the screen, I suspect it's the former, or they wouldn't do that. But if yes, seems surprising not to separate them, no? It'd be much easier to deal with a small computer under the car, than having to replace the screen. But maybe I'm missing something. Just curious. Thanks. And yes, the screen could always crap out (especially over time), just like any TV. But not crash, no?
