HomeLink Q

I'm thinking of getting the HomeLink installed, but a little worried that I won't be able to pair with fobs

I have purchased fobs on Amazon before and used YouTube to try and clone my existing working Fob to the new one, with no joy whatsoever. I purchased the same fob brand and the tutorial was for this fob

I've been told that you can't clone from my Gate receiver, don't know if thats true or not. I can go in to a shop that can clone with the same fob, so Fob to Fob cloning is possible. Maybe this is because of the shops 'software', my Q is will the HomeLink device mirror the capabilites of the Shop, as I might have same issue with Gate receiver as I have now tyring to clone

I've looked up the Homelink web page for compatibility, but I don't know the brand of the garage door/gate opener remote. I know the fob, but I assume its just a generic fob (fob type is BFT MITTO 2 B2)

I’ve got 3 remote control drvices that I wanted to use homelink with and only had partial success with one of them.

The one with partial success worked once then I suspect code rotated and stopped working. I have subsequently successfully cloned an identical key fob for that one.

2 of the 3 are communal devices that I have no control over, ie I couldn’t do more advanced programming if that existed or add an after market device.

The one that I could add an after market receiver to would only get very occasional use so I haven’t bothered.

Would have been great if it worked - I still get an onscreen message to activate it when I rock up to one of the gates. Instead I have to grab the fob.

Nice idea but I don’t think it’s much of a thing here in UK. There is an extensive list of compatible devices if you Google for it.

But it was free with the car so didn’t cost anything to try.

If its Fob, I see no reason it won't work, but other way, I'd be very unsure

Its frequencies and rolling codes that seem to be the issue. Only one device fob was recognised (and I've tried dozens of times even with different firmware updates) and (after initial jubilation) that one only lasted the one operation before it stopped working probably because of a rolling code.

All my pairing was with fobs. Didn't have access to receivers on 2 of the 3 as they were communal devices managed by specialists with a large fee - hence why I cloned my own fob on one of the devices.

My garage was incompatible with the car so I got a £75 secondary receiver and wired it into the existing unit's terminals for the an external switch. Works great and gives you a backup option.

If there’s a rolling code, you do indeed need to also “learn” from the receiver using its learning button. In my case, my gate set up did not have one, so I switched to a static code receiver.

Thanks. That’s confirmed my suspicions that I would have needed to get the communal gate maintenance people involved which based on their replacement key fob price would not be cheap even if they were prepared to try.

I had thought about trying it myself but ramifications of cocking up a communal gate aren’t worth thinking about.
