No clue if an S fob works with a Y. But if you get a Y fob, it gives you passive entry/start/exit like the phone app.

Edit: After looking on the Tesla accessories shop, the S key probably doesn’t work with the 3/Y, since they list specific compatibilities and year ranges.

I remember reading a while ago, that the two fobs are not compatible with each other. From what I remember, the S fob, uses traditional RF to communicate with the car... The Y fob, uses bluetooth to communicate with the car, and also has NFC built into it, so you can tap it even if the battery is dead.
