lol people really dont get it...what do you think will happen when the economy dies. You think well all get together and sing? Your neighbor well be coming over to murder you for a can of food.

There has to be a balance between protecting people's lives and protecting the economy. The vast majority of those deaths are going to be people with pre-existing conditions and people with short life expediencies, so the tragedy (you can consider every passing a tragedy, in a different sense) is not so much that they live 1-2 less years than they normally would have, but overwhelming the healthcare system.

Also, however counter intuitive it may sound, we don't have very much information about how these shutdowns affect the spread of the disease. Limiting travel from infected zones (China, Europe) is obvious, but we simply do not know how many lives, if any, will be saved by the more extreme measures.

Govt is rapidly ramping up to supplement legacy hospitals with Mercy/Comfort hospital ships, cruise ships, empty hotels, private surgical day care facilities, MASH mobile medical units, and other options.
Country is now under more of a Military style management, where red tape is being cut that usually delays quick action. Lives are at stake and quick action is beneficial.
Most of the American auto manufacturers have volunteered to produce all the ventilators and respirators necessary if given the go ahead. They have the facilities and talent to transform for the war effort, just as they did in WWII to switch from making consumer goods to tanks, planes and army vehicles.

They will cross train medical personnel to operate the machines and rise to the occasion.

This is one of the reasons that people need to stay home and avoid contamination. If people do the smart thing, the rise in hospitalizations will be slowed. Will give the medical community the time necessary to ramp up services.

If you are currently healthy, and not part of the medical solution, keep away from others that may be carrying the virus.

Most medical providers in my area with acute services (Mental Health) are doing all appointments by phone or Video conferencing. HIPPA restrictions have been made more flexible to allow this, though facetime does not meet requirements.

It's so dangerous to put front line workers, doctors and nurses, in harm ways by asking them to reuse their PPE. This is an unacceptable and sad thing the orange thing thinks that it doing fantastic job. The number of infection has doubled in two days and most haven't tested, get ready for the worst!

Wow, just back from my usual 3-mile dog walk. Today there were people everywhere. Perhaps I was an hour later than normal but wow! And not many cars, but everyone out on bikes and scooters or running. Bet we all go back to work rested and tanned having lost the xmas weight.

Tesla Operational Update | Tesla, Inc.

Fremont shut down starting 3/23 which means some Model Y delays are basically forthcoming. Probably at least two to three weeks of delays minimum. Possibly more than that because suppliers will have to ramp back too in coordination with Fremont.

Hopefully some of you that have vehicles in transit by then will get them delivered.

Remember that "flattening the peak" will prevent overwhelming the healthcare system, but will by nature extend the period that the virus is circulating.

How do your parents or grandparents feel about your position?

Are you by chance related to the public official in Kansas who told the Kansas City Star the virus is not a problem in his area because few Chinese people live there?

Kansas official says coronavirus isn't a problem because there aren't many Chinese people there

Wow, someone who doesn't know the difference between a race and a nationality. Shutting down the border with a nation whose infection rate is greater than ours is different from saying that only Chinese people carry the disease.
