@fiksegts, it looks like you are right. I checked the rules on the NHRA website here and it says "The first vehicle across the finish line wins". However, I think the rules are misconfigured. To fix the problem, they should pick one of these options:
Option 1: Ignore who crossed the line first and look only at elapsed time to determine the winner. Each car is on a separate clock anyway. This would make things less confusing than it is now but the downside is, it would make reaction time irrelevant and it looks like the aim here is to keep it relevant.
Option 2: Instead of starting each car's clock when that car crosses the laser, start both clocks at the same time when the lights turn green. Then use each car's time to determine the winner.
