Charlotte NC service center says the same. But Carvana offered me $1600 more for my car than Carmax, so I plan to sell it to Carvana instead. I structured my Tesla order as if I don't have a trade-in.

Same here. Got a better offer from an on line buyer. Tesla would not match. Almost cancelled order.
I had a similar issue with Tesla just yesterday. I finally got around to get a CarMax quote it came in $1,000 over Tesla's my sales advisor told me Tesla would not match it. He insisted three times, until I interupted him and asked him if he checked. He said no I was shocked that an advisor would just say no to me without even checking. I finally just told him to cancel the order and that i was going to write to Tesla and voice my dissatisfaction with this process. After about three minutes the advisor called me back and said YES Tesla will match CarMax. Moral of this story Don't allow the sales advisor to just say no push your deal to the next level ......
