Does re-using my old license plate complicate Tesla delivery day?

We just sold my wife's car and hope to take delivery of a new Model X in a couple of weeks.

Of course we have the license plate from the car we just sold, so I thought re-using that plate would simplify the delivery day. But my Delivery Specialist in San Francisco says it complicates things.

Does Tesla do something funny that makes it hard for them to use the old plate? At any regular car dealer here in North Carolina that's never been a problem. But maybe Tesla pre-prints some forms or something?

Anybody know what the deal is?

If u have vanity plate ..there is a form they fill out for u ...if non vanity not sure u can transfer in CA

In my case, my request to transfer my old generic plate to the new car was refused by Tesla in CA. The delivery specialist said the only exception is vanity plate.

OP if u did have vanity plate this is form u can bring or have Tesla fill out for you

About 2 weeks before my X arrived, my vanity plate, issued for my prior car, arrived. I never took off the cancelled plate from the old car until I sold it, and Tesla filled out the paperwork to move the vanity plate to the Tesla. Never occurred to me that I might not have been able to move the old plate otherwise. My Vanity plate is pictured on the left: "TESLA MX."
