Charging stops at 80%, then drains during the night

Hello! I've enjoyed my first Tesla (Y performance) for a few weeks now. I have a quick question regarding charging: I charge in a parking lot that I share with several neighbours, so I always leave sentry mode on. When the car reaches charging limit (80%), it stops charging. This usually happens sometime during the night. When I wake up, its usually drained a few percent below 80%. Why isnt the charger keeping the car at 80% during the night? Is there a setting?

Sentry keeps the car awake, so there will be some loss from that. Additionally, it might hit 80% but then sitting cold the rest of the night might reduce it's usable energy. This is typical.

I have mine set to 50% and routinely wake up to 48/49% during winter.

Totally normal, the car does not “maintain” a set charge. It chargers to the chosen SOC then stops and will not resume until the SOC has dropped by several percentage points.

So there isnt a way to make it restart charging automaticly when it drops? What if the car sits for several days plugged in and loses a lot of charge?

If you really need the car to be at 80% when you next drive it, you could set the charge limit a little higher while charging.

Sometimes in the morning my battery percentage will drop a couple points as the battery cools down (either after charging, or after driving a while and then parking). Later in the day it apparently "magically" goes back up a couple percent, I assume as the battery warms up thanks to warmer ambient temps.

You can also use scheduled departure and it will finish charging at the specified time.
