I'm not sure what Tam is talking about...
I'm not sure what Tam is talking about, but yes, older 17" touch screens on cars (I notice yours is Feb 2013) do have this issue from time to time. If your car is still under warranty (did you buy the extended service agreement?), it is a free replacement. I had this on my Model S for 6 months before doing anything about it - it didn't cause any problems.
Yes - it's $200 deductibleThere is a co-pay with the extended warranty? I must not have read the fine print!
$200 ... and read your receipt when you get it. Unclear if it's per visit or per symptom.Yes - it's $200 deductible
You are better off replacing it sooner. There is a sticky, nasty goo leaking out the bottom of the screen and making a mess in that area. Eventually it will make its way down into the cubby.I have the extended warranty so will pay the $200 copay and get it replaced.
Will probably wait 6-12 months so I get a display that will last a longer period of time.

Not any more. Originally you had to replace the entire MCU which was $4,500. Now they offer a screen-only replacement for ~$1,200.The out of warranty cost has been reported to be 4500.

The current view is that heat is the culprit. The new screens have some extra felt tape in between the face of the screen and the metal trim that should help slow heat transfer from the hot trim to the screen.
Unfortunately the replacement cost out of warranty is $2,510 according to the Austin service center. And I am 6 months out of warranty!!!
I must say, this is the first time I have been disappointed in Tesla. If this was a known issue they should have been fixing it before it came up, not until what appears to be a desire to let them get out of warranty then charging $$$$ for it.
2500 is too high. The cost is 1200 for the digitizer alone, and thats the only thing that needs fixed. Ask them what they are replacing, or post a picture of the service quote here and I'll find the proper part numbers (if i am able).Unfortunately the replacement cost out of warranty is $2,510 according to the Austin service center.
