Black fingerprints on headliner-How to clean it off?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
A couple of notes on technique if this is new to you:
  • Blot so you do not damage the texture of the headliner
  • After blotting the spot a couple of times, move to a fresh section of cloth with fresh cleaner, otherwise, you run the risk of re-depositng the dirt as you blot
  • With the light headliner, often you will end up with the freshly cleaned spot being cleaner than the surrounding area. To address that, lightly moisten a fresh section of cloth and blend the clean spot into the rest of the headliner
  • Never spray cleaner directly on the headliner--you will end up with a ring

I got back from the body shop a few days ago, and I noticed a black fingerprint sized smudge right above my eyes near the visor. I have the suede-like beige cloth alcantara headliner.

I tried a very tiny bit of soap in water on a sponge. Still there, but lighter.

Then I tried some rubbing alcohol, which is 70% water, on the sponge.

Disappeared like magic.

Headliner looks new again. Since no one has mentioned simple rubbing alcohol (not ethyl, methyl, etc, but plain old isopropyl rubbing alcohol in your medicine cabinet) makes it an easy thing to try.
Do you mean add 70% water to 30% rubbing alcohol?
