This has been discussed piecemeal in other forums, so figured it would be good to move further the discussion into a dedicated thread.

Interesting article recently published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans: They have added a new tool to the toolkit to look at patterns of Arctic warming and sea ice loss and in doing so have extended data several hundred years to our previous direct measurements by tracking the paths of frozen trees that made their way across the Arctic Ocean over the prior ~500 years. Their data confirms and reinforces our previously measured data that:

A distinct decrease in driftwood incursion during the last 30 years matches the observed decline in pan-Arctic sea ice extent in recent decades, further highlighting the sensitivity of this unique sea ice proxy.
