Anyone ever use yoke touch buttons for another project

With so many yokes getting replaced for peeling, plus people swapping them out to get the center horn, there are a lot of super cheap ones available used. Has anyone else ever used one of these for touch buttons for another project? I just got one from eBay to see if I can disassemble it and install the touch buttons and wheels on my rally car. From a quick check of the Model S wiring diagram, it looks like it just needs power, ground, and a LIN wire. That works nicely for me since my quick release has two contacts for wires in addition to ground. It seems like it should be fairly easy to make a little circuit to convert the LIN signals to mimic CAN signals from some vehicle that my Haltech ECU supports.
