Aero Covers ruining wheels?

For the first time yesterday I pulled one of the aero Covers to take a look underneath. As I've read it seems the covers can some damage to the rims. However slight, it's still there. Is this more common than I realized? Should I request Tesla do something about it? Also, how much range do they really save? I'd prefer to just grab some after market caps and lug covers, I like the look better.

I have been using Aero wheel covers for nearly 2 years now and have not seen any issues. Pictures for such a question would be most helpful.

You don't need aftermarket caps and lug covers... Tesla sells a center cap and lug covers, too. I got them but so far have not used them.

I know they aren't necessary but the stock wheels look horrible without them IMO. Also, the Tesla ones are a bit pricey for what they are. I've seen many options and colors for less
