Would Tesla do the MCU1 to MCU2 upgrade on a Model S with a salvage title?

I have a 2013 85 salvage title-rebuilt title-California title. I spent the 1200.00 for the HV inspection, and now all of the dealers in my area will service anything on it, including HV equipment. Its worth the money given what I paid for the car and I have had over 4 years of great driving so...

    First Responder Loop disconnect

Here's a question: Assume that for whatever reason someone cuts or dis-connects the First Responder loop while the 12V battery is still connected. Anyone know what the car's response will be when the loop is restored? Any software flags or lockouts set?

Would Tesla do the MCU1 to MCU2 upgrade on a Model S with a salvage title?

Uhhh.... Just like killing my DC charging after I had it, and used it, for a year and a half.................................?

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

You kinda made my case in your earlier post when you said that Tesla has been clear that allowing (previously- my entry) wrecked cars to use their chargers has no material impact on their reputation. I totally agree with that. Then why are they locking road-worthy titled cars out? Don't those...

Go charge somewhere else would be fine with me! Turn it off at the Supercharger but enable my car to DC charge!

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

If I'm counting right, that should be three of us. I would think the next step would be to find a lawyer experienced in cases such as this and truly evaluating the case to determine if it really is legally viable. Big money starts here. Since I'm starting to see some interest, I'll look into...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

Agreed!!!! Not enough horsepower in my retirement benefit though. That's why I bought the car. I couldn't really afford one but my enthusiasm for the technology was too much not to get in on the ground floor and I was betting that a super clean car like this with low miles would give lots of...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

It's done in the car by modifying it's software, not in the charger although Tesla has the ability to do it at the Supercharger also. My understanding is that the superchargers will be sending the mods to the car to shut them off if somebody has restored them. I was willing to accept Chademo or...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

I would think that there is value for Tesla in this! Sure is an example of how rugged the cars are if aftermarket people can repair and maintain them! Wonder how far Chevrolet would have gotten with this kind of policy? Curious to see if Rivian, Lucid or any of the other upstarts will have a...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

Thanks for that. It would seem that Tesla also has little interest in any of the cars with expired warranty. They seem to want them gone and a new plaid sold instead. I thought I heard that Tesla killed it's public relations dept some time ago. I'm also not all that impressed with their...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

totally agree with that. I think that there is a winner in that. All it would take is basically a lot of money. I haven't seen much committment type of interest (as in Class Action) from owners of cars in this situation. Too bad. I'm not all that interested in going it alone since I'm getting...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

Uhhh..........Yeah. Haven't heard anything about GM breaking into garages where there are salvage title corvettes and re-programming the fuel injection to reduce power because they don't want the liability. The worst of this is that Tesla allows no way back. I definitely think there is the...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

Model S # 00007! I'm envious! In spite of this issue sure hope you're enjoying your car as much as I'm enjoying mine! Something else: Yes, we cannot DC charge, but does your car have the optional slave battery charger? Mine does and it allows AC charging at up to 20 KW! That's as much as 58 MPH...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

I currently know I cannot use a supercharger. My understanding is that in the Model S the charging is disabled by changing a bit within the computer's programming and that all DC charging is disabled. The Model 3 may be different. I would like to give a Chademo a try, but the adapter is...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

My understanding is that there is no way to differentiate. According to maintenance personnel at Tesla all D.C. charging on Salvage-Title cars will be cut off. I am holding up purchasing a Chademo adapter until I can confirm that it will work but it doesn't sound likely. Uhhh.... Confirming...

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

To beatle: At present I don't think so and I also believe that to be the core of the issue: lack of the car's ability to D. C. charge which it was born with-- for life. To ucmmdd: Doomsayers need not apply here. This whole issue is being studied before pursuing. Don't want to say much about it...

Well, that's dismal! Thought I might have some responses by now. Aren't you "Unsupported" car owners interested?

DC Charging a rebuild title Tesla

I own a Tesla Model S85 that has a history of salvage title-rebuild. For the first year of ownership it had supercharging capability, then....... just like the rest of you out there it suddenly quit working. The instrument cluster didn't even say that Supercharging was disabled, just that there...

    Rebuilt title on a Tesla

I also own a beautiful 2013 rebuild title car. I had supercharging for the first year of ownership and then (just like others) and with no warning, supercharging was shut off. At that point, I was not aware of Tesla's policy. There is more bad stuff in that policy. Tesla will not repair or work...

    Funniest Tesla Question Thread

Funniest one that happened to me was when I was putting my groceries in the frunk. A passers by asked if I needed help with my problem. I explained "no thanks, just getting my hot dogs off of the hot exhaust manifold to eat. Being interested in the idea he came over and looked, and asked...

    MODEL S GEARBOX OIL

Uhhhh….. Oh yes, they do. They don't want anything to do with salvage vehicles even though mine has gone through rebuild title and currently has a clean California title. They wouldn't even sell me a license plate mount.

    MODEL S GEARBOX OIL

I am the happy owner of a 2013 Model S85 ex-salvage vehicle. Since Tesla is hinky about doing maintenance on my car I plan to do much of it myself. Currently I want to change the gearbox oil. The service manual (or at least the one I have) says that two different oils were used, Mobil SH 629 and...

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

I took out a contract with Peterson-Dean for a PW2 in Feb of 2019 with an install date of "approximately July 12". I had asked if they actually had batteries available to which they said yes. Some 3 months later they Emailed me saying that Tesla had lifted its suspension of PWs. Lie # 1. On July...

    Maintaining charge while plugged in

I have wondered about that as well. Setting my '13 S85 to an 80% SOC takes it to 211 miles, but if left plugged in I've seen it sink to as low as 205. Never lower than that. I have not been successful catching the car "waking up" to refresh itself, but would like to someday.

My S supercharge speed seems to be restricted at ~50KW

Most batteries I'm familiar with can develop a "surface charge" (at high charge rates) that makes it more difficult for a deep charge to occur. Moving to another stall uses part of that, and still more sinks into the cell during the move, which results in a temporary increase in charge current...

New Model S - Very loud creaking/Squeaking when maneuvering - am I missing something?

I have a 2013 S85 and noted a creaking/squeaking noise when turning either stopped or at very low speeds. Mine's out of warranty so I had to investigate myself. The noise I had was notable while stopped or at very low speed. When stopped, I could cause the noise by SLOWLY moving the steering...

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

Yup! I especially like it when the "victim" describes the accelerator pedal sucking down to the floor, which hasn't been possible since cars gave up accelerator linkages and cables.

How much solar on roof to power a Tesla for a year?

I had 30 300 panels installed on my house and was selling too much back to the power company (at 3 cents a KWH) so I bought a Model S 85. I am driving it 8,000 miles a year and STILL am selling too much power back (my house is all electric), so I think 10 panels would do just fine.

Happy Birthday to my Model S

There are only two Teslas in my area. The other day I had opened the frunk to get a shopping bag. A nice guy stopped and asked me if I was having a problem. I said: Nope! Just getting at my hot dog I warmed on the exhaust manifold!!!!

    2013 Model S 85 Part Out

I own an S85 that is a rebuilt salvage car and am in need of various interior trim parts to finish the job. I live in Lake county about 96 miles from Sacto. Any possibility of coming there and doing some shopping? Example of parts I'm looking for: Right lower trim panel from the standard...

Need power cable for Model S

Check on the Internet. I tried to order thru Tesla and my order fell in a black hole, and so did my inquiry that followed. There are numerous websites that sell SAE charge cables that work fine with your 1772 adapter. Mine is a 16 amp 220-volt but I saw numerous 32s available. It cost $172.00 vs...

what do you think of this article?

I charge my Tesla from the solar system that also services my house. Even though I am using the very inefficient 120 volt charging, I can drive the car 50 miles a day and still keep it's charge up. My total electric use for the year was -1.4 mega watts (meaning that my electricity bill was...

Slow charging (110V) impact on battery health ?

There's another reason: I had solar installed this year and found my system was selling too much back to PG&E (at 3 cents a KWH) So I bought a Tesla. Mine's a salvage-rebuild and I saved a bunch of money!!, I don't have a supercharger near where I live and charging at 120V doesn't outstrip my...

How can ReGen bypass the charger?

The early non driver aid cars had an endlessly interesting speedometer display that gave good instantaneous info on power use and regen (I don't know if the later cars- post '15- still have it. The 2016 owners manual has no info on it). At times like cold weather, this display will show a dashed...

    Joining up

Well, here's another owner of an ex-salvage title car. It's an "S85" that had collision damage to it's RR quarter. I'm in the same fix with Tesla refusing to sell me even a lug nut. I'm anticipating doing a lot of business with Henry at Autobahn (I picked THAT up from blogs here- Thanks). How...
