    CVTs for Electric Vehicles

So I’ve read through the earlier forum discussions on gearboxes for EVs, but was hoping we could start one specific to Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT). It seems to me that there could be some serious benefit to engineering an effective marriage of EV powertrain to a CVT, but I’m...

    Tesla designs copied?

Just saw a black Volkswagen CC in the parking lot yesterday and did a doubletake... thought it was my first mod s sighting in the wild. I'm not too upset if they copied, there's plenty of room on the road for beautiful cars.

    Enclosed wheels?

Here's one of the Tatra 77. This bad boy was designed in the 1930's and had a drag coefficient on par with the Model S. Not too shabby.

    Model X vs Model S 17" screen

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out the awe-inspiring glare that the infotainment screen provides when there's no shield for it. (Model S prototype for the win.)

WA Senate passes $100 annual electric car fee

    1) Can anyone tell me what happens to the 5.99% that the WA Legislature adds to my electricity bill? 2) Also, what's the Bill # going to be when it reaches the House? --Here's a direct link to the Senate's Page for SB 5251: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=5251&year=2011...

    Reactions to the Model X

Originally when I heard "Model X" I was expecting more of an SUV, less of a crossover/minivan. Pretty much a standard-door, 5-seat version of what rolled out. And I was very excited about it. But as soon as I found out it would hold 7 adults... meh. It's still in the minivan category in my...

    Reactions to the Model X

I feel like the Model X design makes some major strides forward in the automotive industry, but Tesla still didn't sell it to me. They definitely should have focused more on the control and responsiveness of the dual motor AWD system. This is a serious performance upgrade, offering...

What kind of car is this?

Yeah, it looks like more trademarks of this generation of sedans... side vents on front fenders, led tail lights/accents on sleek headlights, chrome trim around the windows & trunk, and a low-profile exhaust systems (or lack thereof!) I was glad to hear that the production Model S will have the...

    Custom Paint

Anyone have experience/advice on aftermarket paint jobs? I'm waiting on delivery of an all-yellow 2.5 sport with black rims. Thinking it might need some accents to bring out the body lines but I've heard that there are complications when dealing with the carbon fiber body panels.

    The deal breaker...

It seemed oversized to me too, but I think part of that was due to it being next to the roadster. Independently, I'm having a hard time coming up with negatives for the Model S. My largest concern is for the EV infrastructure, so probably the charge port is the biggest issue. Already not very...

    Roadster Production Countdown

Ordered mine on May 7th and was told it was one of the last 6 or so custom build slots available--only had sport models left, but all other options were still available. Looks like it'll be line number 1354, but I'm yet to see any pattern to how they've been assigning this.

How many Roadsters will be produced?

All Gone? Think I heard there were 5-6 custom build slots left in the US on Saturday... forced me to pull the trigger  So we're in the neighborhood of 4-5 remaining Tick...tock...
