Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
I wonder if it automatically goes into this TESLA pattern for the light show or if there’s some way to control it via Xlights to make your own patterns for light shows.
Anybody know how the Tesla wording gets added to the headlights for the light show? You can actually see the wording in the lens during the show but it’s not there during normal operation. Seems like this feature has been in the car just for whenever they decided to enable it.
Anybody know of common creaky causes on the passenger side? Seems like I get a lot of creaks from somewhere over in the door area. Just regular driving with minimal bumps is causing creaking from over there.
Okay, thanks for the info! Tesla has the refreshed wheels with the Bluetooth TPMS sensors and Sottozero 3 winter tires for $3500/set. Not cheap, but Tire Rack charges $340 each for the same tires and $110 each for the sensors. So that ends up at $1800 for the tires and sensors. Leave the Tesla...
Not sure, I’m thinking related to the electric parking brake but just a guess. How did you handle the hub lip on the center of the car hub when mounting the wheels? Random question because I’m trying to find wheels for my P right now.
So they clear the brakes and have the cutout for the hub lip that the P has? I wonder if Tesla will actually sell them to me since it says they install them and it asks for a VIN.
Did anybody confirm that the 19" sport wheels fit on the Performance model? I'd like to just order the 19" Sport wheel and winter tire combo from Tesla, but their website says it isn't compatible with the Performance model.
Right, but 19” easily clears them. Is it the offset? Hoping to find the exact reason because it seems like I’ve seen people run the Sport 19s on the performance model, but maybe not.
I’d like to get the 19” Sport wheel and winter tire package from Tesla for my Performance model, but Tesla’s website says they aren’t compatible. Anybody know why?
So it looks like what Tire Rack does is just make sure the wheel itself can fit over the lip, then supply a centering ring for the proper 64mm smaller part of the hub. Then when you install the wheel the lip pushes the centering ring further into the wheel. Does this seem acceptable? I’m trying...
How can any non-OEM wheels work on the performance model when the performance model has the stepped hub with the lip? I just got some wheels from Tire Rack and all they included is a standard centering ring in the wheel. Seems like the centering ring will now just sit against the hub lip and the...
Anybody know why the OEM 19s say they are not compatible with the performance model? Doesn’t look like Tesla makes any wheel for my refreshed P other than the Uberturbine, but it’s unclear why the sport 19 isn’t compatible.
Are there even ports there? From what I can tell they moved the ports to be the 2 USB-C ports that are on the opposite side of the center console from the phone charging pad now (ports aren’t visible from the driver seat since the ports are now facing the front of the car inside the center console).
Sorry if this is hidden somewhere in here already, but if I want to get 19” wheels for a new M3P is there something special to look out for? I’ve seen a few videos and articles talking about how the center of the wheel is recessed in the OEM 20” wheels to match up with a special lip on the hub…...
Was approved for 2.49% through Tesla no questions asked. I’ve actually never been asked for proof of income for any car loan or credit card. I assume they just trust whatever you put down and go by your credit score. I ended up going through a local credit union for 1.49% instead.
Besides some of the more obvious things (spoiler not stuck down fully on both ends, noticeable panel gaps, etc.), here’s a few other places that I’ve found to generally have very minor assembly differences on lots of Model 3s that I’ve seen:
- Hood sitting higher or lower on one side when...
In my experience (on second car now, had a 2019 and now 2022)… no. I’m not seeing any net improvement in initial quality at delivery. Still have to look the car over and find all the things Tesla either missed or hoped you wouldn’t notice.
If you’re in the US then your car comes from Fremont.
I’m not an expert but I had this issue on my first Model 3 and all they could do was try to align the wheels different to center the steering wheel. There isn’t an actual adjustment for the steering wheel separate from the actual car wheels. Worth making a SC appointment though and see what they...
Picked up my new car and discovered this metal clip just hanging out in the glovebox. Any guesses as to where it may have come from? I’d like to check and see if I need to snap it back in place somewhere.
When I go into the dash cam viewer it doesn’t show anything for playback even though I have it turned on. In my previous 3 there would always be a history from the last hour or whatever even if I hadn’t manually saved anything. Shouldn’t I still be seeing that? Did they change how it works?
Yeah. It’s actually less than my 2019 LR had so I feel like I’m used to the Tesla low initial quality now. Thought maybe 2 years later they would have improved some but looks like they still have fit and finish issues even though it’s basically the same car for several years now. The spoiler...
Good overall, there are a few of the typical fit/finish issues. Spoiler isn’t stuck on all the way on one end (gap between spoiler and trunk lid), one side of rear bumper has a noticeable gap where it meets the quarter panel right by the wheel, side reflector thing on the taillight doesn’t look...
Picked up today. Seems to have a few figment issues all around the right rear. Bigger than usual gap between the quarter panel and rear bumper right at the wheel well, leading edge of the side of the taillight seems to be sticking out, uneven gap where the side of the trunk meets the car along...
I’ve sold to both Carmax and Carvana. Both are easy. Carvana is nice because they will come pick up the car right at your house. Took less than 10 minutes.
No, not worth it. If it was the same price then it would be okay to me but I still wouldn’t want it. But $1000 just to switch colors wouldn’t be worth it to me even if I did want them.
I got a message to schedule the delivery the day after I got my VIN. I was actually able to call and get an even earlier date than the online system was offering.
Hey gang, I’m picking up a new 3 in a few days. This will be my second pickup. My first one was in 2019 and I had a whole checklist printed out for things to inspect during delivery. Are we still in that situation these days? Is there an updated checklist somewhere or have things settled down...
Yep. I’ve bought tons of cars out of state. Generally the dealer will not charge the tax and then when you go to register/title the car at your home DMV they will charge you the sales tax. In some instances the dealer will handle things if you are buying from one right on the border since they...
Curious what the latest and greatest recommendations are for initially protecting the paint. I’ll be picking up a new 3 in a few days and would like to do some kind of initial paint protection myself. Being that it’s already pretty cold outside I’m trying to figure out what the best product(s)...
It really comes down to whether or not you want “the best”. I’m the type of person where if I don’t get the best version of a car I will eventually end up selling and buying the better one, so it saves me money in the long run.
This is an interesting situation. I wonder if it simply removes the 200,000 cap from the previous credit rules for 2021, with the new credit rules beginning in 2022.
This would mean Model S and M3P purchases in 2021 would qualify for $7500 even though those same cars purchased in 2022 will not...
Yeah… looks like it’s costly either way. Tire Rack is $440 for them but then you don’t have to pay somebody else to mount and balance it all. I’m pretty sure you can get the sensors cheaper elsewhere though.
I really hope they somehow just make the credit apply to any EV at any price. Either that or just figure out a way to incentivize manufacturers to produce sub-$30k EVs straight away and not have any taxpayer credit involved.
Oh interesting! Thanks for the info… I will probably call to verify as I’ve had issues in the past where Tire Rack thinks they have the right ones and then they don’t work (for a different brand of car)… needless to say it’s a pain once they ship you a bunch of wheels and tires and you install...
The latest developments are making it seem like the credits are going to be less and less likely. Tried to get a vote today and now up to 2 week budget review process and even some progressives and moderates are threatening to sink the whole thing now if one bill proceeds without the other.
