Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
I agree. I noticed this today as well. Mentioned it In one of the other 20.5 threads. No confirmation stop light control is well on its way.
2020.20.5 has improvements to GPS
Took a quick drive today. On this update I’ve noticed better stop light color detection range. I’m referring to the traffic light icon alert that pops up for an upcoming stop. Previously it wouldn’t detect light color until around 300ft or so. It’s now showing that it knows what color it is...
Yeah, not talking about learning. I am talking about how the stop control features are being added to their map without a new map download. 100% a new stop was added to my route where there wasn’t one before. Maybe you were replying to puddles.
Elon has mentioned that we are actively training the stop control function by confirming intersections, stop signs, etc. I was a little skeptical of this to be honest. But I had a recent experience that made me change my mind. On a section of my normal drive, Stop Control would would give me the...
Agreed. I think it is using the wide FOV front camera now or more. Also noticed that a lane arrow appeared behind the car avatar while I was in a parking space. I could be wrong but this seems like new behavior. Possibly using the rear camera now for FSD visualizations?
I think this is the “stop control” update that is just not turned on. It’s been reported by “greentheonly” that this function is a 1 or a 0, activated from Tesla(kind of like the acceleration upgrade). My prediction is that if early access testing goes well, they will turn it on next week.
Yes they are gone. That was part of Tesla’s original nav software that was licensed from another company. When they went to their own nav, those exit visuals went as well. Circa V9 I believe.
I did the DC to DC converter option with no special relays and have not had any issues. I *think* you may only run into issues if you are powering a large amplifier. I am only running a 10” sub with a 400w mono amp. It’s easily a DIY if you have basic car stereo knowledge.
I haven’t noticed any changes since initial release. As long as the parking lot is properly marked in OSM, it works ok. But I rarely use it. I think it’s too reliant on the ultra sonics. This probably won’t really be useful until V2.0 comes out - where it uses the cameras more and can see...
It does take temperature range loss into consideration - if you input the temperature. Click "show more settings" and input it. I have used this in the winter and it has been accurate for me. It's showing average 309wh/mile at 20F and 276wh/mile at 75F for this trip.
Range loss is due to both - heat usage and the cold temp. I would try - abetterrouteplanner.com and input all your data there. I've found it to be extremely useful on long trips and has never let me down. If anything, I've had more charge then predicted - which is a good thing. I quickly ran...
As far as I can tell, mapping curbs and objects does nothing to help smart summon. It just uses the parking aisles and service roads to aid with initial route prediction. Once it starts on the route it will deviate based on what it encounters.
The maps just give smart summon a guideline, not an exact path. Once it initiates, the sensors are primary as it loosely tries to makes sense of its surroundings and find its way to you.
It does not really follow rules of the road and it will adjust to the surroundings as it drives along...
What does your street look like in OSM? I don’t think it will help, BUT it can’t hurt. Might get propagated through the cosmos and fixed at some point.
Oddly enough I just did my first google maps edit (in google maps under feedback) as google would take everyone to an adjacent street next to...
AP has been using cones to limit driveable space for quite some time now (spring time?) Which means it see’s them. HW3 will now display them, which tells me they have more confidence in visualizing individual cones AND HW3 will do a lane change to move away from incoming cones. 2.5 will not...
Just did a little testing with 36.2.1 - no real noticeable improvements. If anything it seems a little less erratic on straight aways but more cautious/slow.
Not quite sure how to answer this, but it’s done very well. It just gradually comes to a gentle stop. It’s good. I would always try and time my decelerations so I don’t use the brake pedal anyway (except the end). If that’s you, then you will love hold mode.
I think it’s interesting that this marks the first real difference between HW 2.5 and HW3. Traffic cones. Every major AP related improvement most likely be HW3 only from here on out. Wonder when those FSD computer upgrades are coming..... My guess is Q1, 2020.
I politely have to disagree. It’s no coincidence. Now there probably is more going on under the hood then we know - I’ll accept that. This could also change with any of the next Tesla updates.
We don’t know exactly how long it takes to populate with the car. Also, in the original Reditt thread...
Awesome. Glad to hear it worked. Also, as I said before, I first read about this on reditt, but I didn’t realize that it would update within a few days. so I cannot claim original credit. This has proved to be an interesting thread with lots of good input.
original info here:
Smart Summon...
Exactly this. I also know it will drive on “service road” as well. Not sure if “driveway” works or not. Just doing the Parking Area really does nothing as far as I can tell.
Without seeing what you mapped and what type of road you used - this info unfortunately isn’t very useful in helping to understand how smart summon is routing.
I’m no expert, but I’ve looked into this quite a bit. I definitely don’t think they are using OSM for roads/routing, only the parking lots like you said.
Google is only the visual overlay. The underlying maps are assumed to be by mapbox, with routing provided by Valhalla. Google doesn’t allow...
I
Dissappointed? I think it makes perfect sense to start with maps. Besides it’s still has to deal with the randomness of humans once it actually starts to drive the route - it will adjust to the situation on the fly. Maps are just a starting point. How do you think FSD is going to drive you...
I personally think they are using a different database for the main roads. But if you start turning a bunch of streets into parking aisles your account will get reported/suspended and roads will get fixed. I think for parking lots at 5mph Tesla is ok with open source. For now.
Ok. I am now 100% sure. Just tried it on the other parking lot where it wanted to route out to the Main Street...and actually tried to when summoned. It now follows the parking aisles perfectly that I drew. Move the target and give it a second to route through the server. The point of this...
I did the same after initially reading about the OSM correlation. I was hoping to see if my edits get updated in the next Nav Database download. I didn’t expect it to pull current data from the server which appears that’s what it’s doing. I notice initially the routing wants to go direct to my...
I am more convinced then ever that smart summon is using Open Street Maps (OSM) for parking lot mapping. This has been posted before but I want to share my results. I had 2 local parking lots that smart summon was awful at. It made horrible routing decisions. I read online that Tesla might be...
A lot of Reddit users are saying the Red light warning with AP enabled is popping up much more frequently on this update. Tesla might be testing their stop light coding specifically, or they just adjusted the sensitivity. I personally have never seen the red light warning go off and don’t have...
Not to mention how hard it is to find, its almost always full and you have to validate your parking. This one needs an upgrade/ another location (outlet mall).
I agree, when ELDA first came out - it was pretty bad - going off daily. But I haven’t noticed it at all since 24.4. And I leave it on. Unless you have some crazy situation, it might be worth trying again.
One more thing I’d like to add is for people to use the “PlugShare” app. I always check-in on the app when I charge (to include superchargers). Other users can send you a message if needed. This came in handy when I needed to use a destination charger that was full. I messaged the user that was...
Back to V10 talk... this twitter user claims this is not Early access, but 28.3.7.
I can’t help but think it might be some V10 testing. The animation for changing lanes is very similar to the autonomy day animation if you watch the video - where the camera shifts for better blind spot view and...
