    Valet mode

I think it's a good idea. No insurmountable drawbacks I can think of. Sure, there could be some corner cases related to emergency situations, but that could be addressed with a clear and prominent warning on the touchscreen (e.g. "the owner of this vehicle will be alerted on their mobile...

Things you didn't know about your Model X

I don't know this for sure 100%, but my understanding is that you can close the FWD by hand without causing any damage to them. Just like the lift gate.

    Towing without the Towing Package

I haven't tried that. I'll give it a try and post an update here.

Things you didn't know about your Model X

BTW, I have also found that sometimes it doesn't display the P but it still works. On those occasions, I have been intently looking for the P, given up on it, only to find that when I put the car on reverse to park it myself, all of a sudden the touchscreen displays the controls for auto-park.

    Towing without the Towing Package

I ordered my P90D with accessory hitch and no tow option. I am pretty sure I had the Tow Mode button/slider on my touch screen at the time of delivery, and then at some point it disappeared. I don't know if it has been removed OTA because I haven't paid for the towing package, or if it would...

Musk had enough of the Falcon Wing Doors yet?

My family and I are very satisfied with the FWD. We find them extremely convenient for our day-to-day use, and haven't had any issues with them at all.

Thoughts and concerns on our new MX

It does... BTW, you can look at the image of your car in the instrument cluster and see the brake lights come on and off depending on the level of deceleration.

    My Model X is Hot...

Yes, but done on purpose to parody click bait articles often found in many media outlets lately. So perhaps not funny, but certainly witty.

    Random Model X sightings

Just saw a beautiful titanium metallic one driving around T-Mobile's HQ in Bellevue, WA this morning. Too sudden and quick to take a pic. Made me miss my Blue Spark even more :)

To Wrap or not wrap your Model X

Check out Detail | Window Tint | XPEL | Opti-Coat | Modesta | Cquartz They have a location in Glenview and one in Glen Ellyn. I haven't wrapped my X but I've had it hand-washed at the Glen Ellyn shop and they did a nice job.

6-seat model owners? (especially in the Chicagoland area)

Hi Elliott, I have a six-seater and would be happy to let you take a look - no scotch required. I'm located in the western suburbs. PM me for further details.

Crunch! Falcon Wing Doors fail to sense obstacle

Exactly! I am one of them. My lower back sings odes to Elon and the whole design department at Tesla each and every time I put my toddler into his car seat in the X. The roof cutout provided by the FWD is absolutely amazing.

Crunch! Falcon Wing Doors fail to sense obstacle

I agree with you, but trying to give @Drivin the benefit of the doubt, maybe what he meant is that he dislikes the fact that the sensor placement makes the doors ineffective at dealing with situations such as the OP's.

    First Trip in The X

Great story. That's probably going to be the route of our first road trip in our X as well. BTW, I don't think someone else can take your J1772 adaptor while it's plugged in. The car will latch it from one side (which only releases when you unlock the car), and the Chargepoint J1772 connector...

Is there a limitation with high wind speed for Model X falcon wings opening ?

Actually, I worry about this too. In a typical car, with doors being fully manual, in high wind conditions you just grab the door strongly to prevent it from whipping open too far / too fast. I don't know what to do to prevent damage to the FWD in a similar situation.

Tesla App - what do the Red/Blue arcs around mph mean?

Is it meant to represent instantaneous values or max/cumulative for current trip? Reason I ask is that if I am using this app function to monitor someone else's use of my car, I'd like to know top speed achieved, max/cumulative energy, etc. without having to stare at the app for an extended...

Model X - Missing and most wanted features

Here’s a feature I’ve been thinking about for a while for cars in general, even before I ordered the Model X, but I think it could be a particularly good fit for the X given this car was conceived and is being marketed as a family mover. The background/context is that every so often I hear...

    Summer Tires Email from Tesla

I would love to hear any follow-up to this from anyone who got that email. My X was indeed delivered with summer tires (Michelin Latitude Sport 3), which are very nice performance tires but will not be good in the Chicago winter. In the last few days before delivery (and having read about the...

Example of my drive today - part divided highway and part 2 lane rural

Scott, these are great and very helpful in forming an idea of what energy performance to expect. Thanks for posting. Question from a newbie... do you get these graphs from the touchscreen, or do you use a tool/app connected to the car?

email from Tesla: Your Model X is built

I got both these emails today, too. The funny thing is that the delivery window shown on the email and the one shown on MyTesla are different... But hey, I nit-pick. I'm very excited that it's so close! Oh, BTW, VIN is back to showing full-length on MyTesla...

"in the factory production queue" means .... ???

Just to add another data point... My VIN was assigned on 2/17, and on 3/4 (i.e. 2 weeks and 2 days later) I got a call from my DS saying that my car was finished and ready to ship. Hidden code in my MyTesla page used to say my estimated delivery window was "Late March - April", but now it...

BMW CEO says Model X only a prototype and hits his head on Falcon Wing Doors

A prototype, by definition, is a non-fully-functional unit intended for testing, design validation, or as a proof of concept. Even if this particular unit at the Geneva show was a Founders edition made entirely by hand, that does NOT make it a prototype. So, whether Mr. BMW was talking about...

Our surprising (to us) decision to go with 6 seats instead of 7...

Thank you for a very articulate description of your rationale for choosing the 6-seat configuration. In a way, I went through the same thought process to convince myself that the 6-seater was the right choice for us. I did it without actually seeing an X up close, though, let alone sitting in...

Living with Falcon Wing Doors - Thumbs up, down, or both?

Thanks Ohmman! With all the hours I spend on TMC every day, you'd think I would have come across the FAQ thread at some point. But somehow I missed it. Great info in there.

Living with Falcon Wing Doors - Thumbs up, down, or both?

Quick question to anyone with an X on hand... How far down do the rear windows go when you roll them down? Do they disappear completely into the FWD or do they stop with some portion of glass still out?

    "Meet Model X: Exclusive Viewing"

I don't think anyone has received an invite to both. Or, I guess there might have been an anomaly here and there, but for the most part people fall into one group or the other and have received the invite to the corresponding event.

    "Meet Model X: Exclusive Viewing"

Same thing in the case of Chicago. Feb 13 test drives by appointment (for reservation holders who haven't configured/ordered), Feb 15 evening 2-hr "viewing" event for those who have ordered. I for one believe this is an appropriate and well thought-out approach. That is, invest more resources...

Does it Matter Where I Take Delivery (Westchester vs. Syosset)

Sort of off-topic for the thread, but if you don't mind sharing, how much were you quoted for the XPEL wrap? And are you doing the whole body or just the front bra? Thanks!

    Tesla Model X P90D Review - Part I (4K)

    Model X Dimensions....

Interesting. My first reaction was that for this to work well, the front seat would have to move all the way forward first, then the 2nd-row seat move forward until resistance was sensed (from the back of the rear-facing car seat hitting the back of the front seat). But I guess they can...

Will MX fit in my garage?

Blurry_Eyed, am I seeing correctly that your active spoiler seems to be in the extended position in most of your pictures, and in the retracted position in others? Any idea why it would be extended while the car is parked? Thanks.

    Model X Dimensions....

With all the emphasis that Elon has placed on this being a car designed for families with children, I am hopeful this scenario has been solved for somehow. But in fairness, and following the same thought process I’ve seen applied to many other questions people have posted here about the X, I...

    Model X Dimensions....

Anyone out there who has installed rear-facing child seats in an X, yet? I’d be interested to understand how far the 2nd-row outboard seats are able to move forward (for purposes of 3rd-row entry) when occupied by one of those huge rear-facing conversion car seats. The specific one my 20-month...
