Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I have a Solaredge 5kW inverter and a Powerwall 2. My export limit is 8.68kW. I have tested and can export from solar and battery at the same time at more than the max 5kW of the Solaredge inverter (due to the Powerwalls integrated inverter). So in theory should my system be able to export...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I’ve heard back from the installers already… Of course there’s not much sun forecast for the next few days so I won’t be able to test it for a while 😄
  3. N

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

My export to grid is not an issue. I can export at 5kW from the Powerwall and higher than that, up to 8.68kW, with solar and battery export combined.

Only fitted in November so still very new. There’s a definite flat line…

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I have DNO permission to export 8.68kW, not sure what that equates to in amps? I’m not sure where to check fuses. There is PV Array Junction Box but it’s screwed shut. There are no fuses for the PV in my consumer unit.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

As above it’s not the wrong inverter. It’s labelled as a 5kW (Solaredge SE5000H) and I can export over 3.6kW which wouldn’t be possible with the lower rated inverter. I don’t expect it to be able to produce the full 6.7kW but it currently flat lines at 3.8kW. I would have thought it should be...

Wrong inverter? It’s labelled as a 5kW and I can export over 3.8kW.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

My PV is split between 2 same size arrays, east and west. The max output should be 6.7kW but now we’re getting a lot more sun, I’ve realised it’s clipping at 3.8kW. Even today with the sun directly overhead and a clear sky, it’s maxed out at 3.8kW. I have a 5kW inverter so would expect to...

Sorted. It was obvious really, I just re-downloaded the latest version (without removing it first). It accepted the owners API token and is up and running again.

    Home Assistant Integration(s)

Thanks, I’ll try restarting HA. I did try to reload a previous version but 3.19 is no longer on the list. I was trying to avoid a fresh install as I have quite a few automations set up and not sure if I’d lose them? That will be my last resort.
  12. N

    Home Assistant Integration(s)

I can generate an owners API token ok. The problem I have is that I checked the ‘Fleet API’ box in the HA configuration to see what was needed and now I’m stuck in the screen that needs the additional Fleet API details. My car might not even be on Fleet API but I can’t get back to the first...

    Home Assistant Integration(s)

I think I messed it up! I ticked the box for Fleet API before I posted here earlier and now it’s asking for extra fields as below. I can’t find a way to get back to the first screen to uncheck the Fleet API box.

    Home Assistant Integration(s)

    Thanks I’ll try that.
  15. N

    Home Assistant Integration(s)

Have you got it working yet? When I first set up the integration I used the iPhone app Auth for Tesla to generate tokens. This now has a Fleet API section that requires logging in to your Tesla account and then generates tokens. Any ideas if that will work with latest HA integration?

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yep! +14p on the standing charge. -3p on the day rate. Last billing period I only used 2.39kWh on the day rate. So I’ll save around 7p a month on that while paying an extra £4+ a month on standing charges.

Mine didn’t trigger today for some reason. Are you aware of any recent updates or changes to the integration?

And just opted in on Octopus app. £1.75 per kWh again. Nothing from Home Assistant though, need to check my config.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

I meant log on to the gateway so I can see what it is currently set to. I realise if it’s too low I’ll have to ask Tesla to increase it. I half remember seeing it when I logged on to the gateway when it was first installed. I haven’t logged on again since as I recall it being a bit of a faff...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Ah I see, that makes sense now, thanks. I don’t think I’ve had it set to “Export Everything” during a solar production period yet. I’ll try it tomorrow and see if it still maxes out at 5kW. Am I right in thinking you can see the site export limit by logging on to the Tesla gateway?
  22. N

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

I think I’ve completely misunderstood how it all works! I have a single PW2, a 5kW Solaredge inverter and single phase supply. The max I can export at is 5kW. I’ve just checked my DNO response letter which approved an 8.68kW export limit. Should I be able to export at 8.68kW? Or am I...
  23. N

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Are you not limited to 5kW max by your inverter? Or have I misunderstood? I also have a 5kW inverter so always thought that was the max rate I could export at?

I blame it on being out running one of the preventers around!

What a muppet! I set everything up last night and then forgot to switch the PW over to Export Everything 🤷‍♂️. Ah well at least it was only a little one I missed out on!

Mine too, before it was visible on the Octopus app.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Makes sense. I’ll just stick with what I’m already doing. As you said it doesn’t need to be ultra accurate.
  29. N

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

It’s not as simple as that because the solar is not always 100% exported and most days I also export excess battery storage at the end of the day. So my solar production figure will rarely be the same as the energy exported to the grid. I’m putting figures in a spreadsheet to get a rough idea...
  30. N

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I have a PW2 and a Solaredge inverter. The daily figures for solar production are different between the 2 apps. The figures in the Solaredge stats are around 4-5% higher than those shown in the Tesla app. Which source would be the most accurate?
  31. N

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

You were misinformed by that Octopus rep. You can still exchange the points for credit in your energy account.
  32. N

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Yes I think you’re correct, so probably couldn’t fully automate for a saving session. I manually set my PW to “Export Everything” every night before I go to sleep so it exports any excess kWh and then HA switches it back to “Solar” after 23:30 so it’s ready for the next day.
  33. N

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

You can use the Tesla Custom Integration by alandtse to switch between “Solar” and “Everything” in the export settings.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

My home assistant integration has just automatically joined a saving session. No other notifications yet. *edit - it’s just appeared in the Octopus app

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I’ve got a Zappi 2 which is integrated with IO. The first night it was used it didn’t add the full amount to the car that I had requested but it turned out to be a schedule set in the Zappi that was overriding IO (no idea how the schedule was set unless the electrician who fitted it set it up)...

It’s actually only 99.5% but you’ve got to love rounding 😄. And it’s only 5 days in to the current billing month so it won’t stay like that.

I drove a friends Model 3 fairly regularly a year or so ago and the auto headlights were useless so were always switched off. On my 2023 Model Y I’ve had for 6 months they’ve been faultless. I’ve not once had to switch full beam off manually. I’m currently on 2023.44.30.8

Solcast, same as @phil4. I agree it’s not very accurate but it does look forward 7 days and keeps the history which the built in Forecast.Solar didn’t do.

Apparently Octopus may have already started kicking people off IO for not using it correctly. There is some discussion about it on the Myenergi forums. Ultimately people gaming the system are likely to ruin it for everyone eventually.

Probably just me not explaining myself very well, it certainly wasn't my intention to suggest any exploits that had no bearing whatsoever on my situation. My wife says I waffle too 😆 Just seen your avatar, we're not far from each other. If you have a Powerwall it may have been fitted by the...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Thanks, none of those suggested exploits are relevant to my situation. I think we got there in the end and I am now confident that what I am doing is 100% allowed with the Octopus products I am using and the set up I have. I will keep a close eye on their policy and adjust accordingly if they...

Yes, perhaps I should let this bone go now! Thank you, that aligns with my understanding of the Octopus policy.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yeah, the battery only thing is a bit of a red herring in this discussion. We all have solar and batteries and what I am trying to determine is if Octopus are happy to pay for "brown exports" where you have eg charged up at off peak rate (7.5p IO) and then export back at a higher rate (15p...
