    Ohmman's Airstream Adventures

The GVWR of the Bowlus Rivet is 3500 lbs, which is exactly the same as the maximum towing capacity of the Model Y. Each to his own, but that is too close for my comfort.

    Wiki Trailer-friendly Supercharger Locations

As I said, pull-through chargers need to be signed similarly to handicapped stalls. No reasonable able-bodied person would take a handicapped stall if another is available, and it should be made clear that pull-through chargers should be reserved for towing, unless all others are occupied...

Until someone without a trailer uses the pull-through SC. I still have PTSD from Morongo CA. I contacted Tesla to suggest they put signs on pull-through chargers, similar to handicap accessible chargers, saying something like "Designed for Towing - Use Last".

Tesla stopped supplying 12V power to the aux pin of the 7 way - Fixed!!!

Greetings fellow Bowlus owner! This thread explains that Tesla stopped supplying power on the 7-pin connector. Do you have an older Model X or how did you deal with that?

    Roadster 203X

Time to change the thread title to: "Roadster 20XX" or maybe even "Roadster 2XXX".

Tesla stopped supplying 12V power to the aux pin of the 7 way - Fixed!!!

One of the many problems with a gas generator is that state and national parks typically limit the hours when you can use a gas generator. A portable power station is expensive, but the gap is getting smaller thanks to competition. I found an amazing year-end Anker deal from Costco. Or if you're...

Tesla stopped supplying 12V power to the aux pin of the 7 way - Fixed!!!

I believe this device would violate the Tesla New Vehicle Limited Warranty: under exclusions on page 9, it says "Using the vehicle as a stationary power source". Use a device like this at your own risk. Personally, I recently purchased a Portable Power Station to extend boondocking with our...

Tesla stopped supplying 12V power to the aux pin of the 7 way - Fixed!!!

Good to see you and your gorgeous trailer, @DelPhonic1. To the best of my knowledge, the refresh Model X did not add power to the 7-pin socket. That should not affect your Tekonsha controller or the trailer brakes, so long as your trailer can power its brakes from the house batteries. That's the...

    Wiki Trailer-friendly Supercharger Locations

Any updates about a wiki or database? I like the early suggestion from @ohmman and would like to add my own: Unhitching not needed. Most trailers will not block traffic. Pull-through where you can exit without backing. Unhitching not needed. Most trailers will not block traffic. Pull-in where...

Are the Cybertruck's looks growing on you?

A key difference is the tradeoff between bed capacity and cab size: personal trucks tend to have shorter beds with crew cabs, while work trucks tend to have longer beds with regular or extended cabs. That said, I find it interesting that Ford, which aggressively markets to commercial fleet...

Are the Cybertruck's looks growing on you?

You described the Model X: an SUV that seats up to 7. Same for the Rivian R1S. The Cybertruck is quite different.
  16. gglockner

Are the Cybertruck's looks growing on you?

I think there are 3 customers for trucks: Work trucks: general contractors, landscaping businesses, etc. Many if not most are stripped models without a crew cab. I doubt the Cybertruck will appeal to many of them. Personal trucks for "truck stuff": hauling lots of gear (bikes, snowmobiles)...

Bellevue Location no longer doing deliveries?

That's not my experience when we took delivery of our MX in Lynnwood and our M3 in Seattle, both in 2022. Furthermore, when we switched our MX delivery from Bellevue to Lynnwood, they charged us another $175 or so. I'm not an accountant so I don't know if this was correct.

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Correct. A button would still be far better.

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Is the horn button on your Land Rover a physical button or a touch pad? The issue with the horn on the refresh Model S/X is that it's a touch pad that is difficult to find by feel. So when you need the horn urgently, you have to look at the yoke/wheel instead of at the road. Extremely unsafe design.
  22. gglockner

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Also add: horn is not controlled by pressing center of wheel/yoke.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

FSD is different in a very important way: customers (including myself) paid thousands of dollars already for a feature that doesn't work anywhere close to its advertised capability. I'm no lawyer, but that sounds like fraud to me.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

Folks, two things can be true at once: Tesla is the leader in EV sales and technology Musk has grossly overpromised again and again - off the top of my head: capability of Full Self Drive, availability of Cybertruck, Roadster v2, battery swap, robotaxi (and that doesn't include claims for other...

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

I realize TMC is a fan club, but some of us Tesla owners have legit issues with FSD. Robotaxi is another similar claim from Musk that was promised years ago and yet to be delivered.

That describes Tim Cook of Apple, and I agree that a similar CEO would be a welcome change for Tesla. Dare Obasanjo said it best: https://mas.to/@carnage4life/110655701835671494

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

Drove a friend over the weekend in our Model X, who said that Musk is the reason he won't buy a Tesla. I'm sure many others feel the same way. And the horn button isn't just an inconvenience. It is a serious safety issue. I'm looking forward to the day when NHTSA forces Tesla to redesign it.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

On the refresh MS/MX, the horn is a capacitative touch button on the yoke. Worst design ever, followed closely by the elimination of all stalks. Not exactly a quality issue, but still frustrating compared with other vehicles.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

Sort-of. I think my 2014 Model S 85 supported battery swapping. Tesla built a demonstration station near the Harris Ranch Supercharger; I recall it was built to get a government grant. The battery swap program was quickly canceled; this article on Teslarati suggests it was available to the...

Is Model X a good tow vehicle?

I like the Bowlus, despite its flaws. The biggest issue is that, unless you live in southern California, be prepared to handle most maintenance yourself. The interior is comfortable for two but crowded for more. And yes, the cabin height may be an issue for a tall person like you.
  34. gglockner

Is Model X a good tow vehicle?

Yes, by 40% less I meant 60% efficiency. When towing, we get about 500 Wh/mi, or about 200 miles for a full charge.
  35. gglockner

Is Model X a good tow vehicle?

The consensus is that aerodynamics matters more than weight. There are a few of us who tow a Bowlus with a Model X, and we see range of about 40% less than normal.

Tesla stopped supplying 12V power to the aux pin of the 7 way - Fixed!!!

Personally, I think the only good solution is a hardwired brake controller as suggested by @DCGOO. The Tekonsha Primus iQ, P2 or P3 should work fine.

    Seattle Touchless car wash recommendations?

My experience is completely different: I can rinse off this discoloration quickly and easily. Back when I got my 2014 MS, Tesla actually recommended touchless car washes.
  38. gglockner

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

No argument. My experience with a 2022 Model X Long Range and 2022 Bowlus Terra Firma is that, under perfect conditions, we get 220 miles of range. Practically, we drive in the morning, DC charge during lunch, DC charge again in the mid-afternoon, and do a Level 2 charge overnight.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Wrong. I own both a MX and a M3P, and I previously owned a MS and another MX. I've already had a failed Falcon Wing Door sensor replaced under warranty. My spouse hates the falcon wing doors because they're gimmicky and error prone. I agree.

S & X Yoke mounted turn signal buttons should light up when activated.

For me, the turn signal buttons are a distant #2 issue with the yoke. Issue #1 is the 🤬 horn button: a car crash waiting to happen.

We're getting off topic, but I'd say yes-and-no. Very roughly speaking, Tesla is different in: 100% EV product line (*) Direct-to-consumer sales and service Owns and operates the Supercharger network Glass cockpit with tight integration of infotainment That doesn't excuse other areas that...

    Modifying hitch receiver dust cover

Yes, you need access to the 7-pin wiring connector and the chain eyelets if you're connecting a trailer. But if all you need is to install a hitch bike rack, a small cutout is fine.

    Electrify America general discussion

Sometimes I wonder if the industry made the right choice to put on-board chargers inside EVs. I imagine an alternate universe where there are no EVSEs: the conversion from AC to DC is done outside the vehicle, and the vehicle only accepts DC. This would make vehicles cheaper and Level 2 chargers...

    Ohmman's Airstream Adventures

I’m with @Webeevdrivers : I don’t use a weight distribution hitch, nor do I think it’s necessary for a 3000 lb trailer. I know several have replaced the stock hitch with the Draw Tite - I prefer to stay stock but there are some good arguments for the Draw Tite. I took this picture 2 weeks ago at...
