Refresh Model S Tint / PPF / Ceramic Photos & Info

TrueLock HD Ribbed (basically the same as RaceDeck but less $$)...DIY job...took all day to remove everything from the garage floor, lay down & connect all the tiles (super easy though), and cut some tiles (most difficult part) in some areas to make it fit better. But worth it since I likely...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Living & driving in NC isn't like living & driving in S. Florida; I've done both. S. Florida is terrible and I often use my horn. Of course defensive driving takes priority but I grew up in the Northeast...we use the horn A LOT! :p

Anyone going to push Tesla SC folks to do a "yoke steering" swap for the new one that has a HORN in the middle of the yoke steering where it should be? Anyone think they'll do this for people who request it????? I feel it's still quite DANGEROUS with the horn only as a little tiny button in...

Okay fine, but on that note, FSD in city driving sucks...very sketchy at best thus far. It still hates intersections, left turns, and splits in the road. I've had my MS Plaid since late Oct, 2021 (with > 6k mi. on it) and FSD Beta since Dec, 2021, and AP then, sucks even worse. Acura's (2019)...

Any idea why my 2021 MS Plaid would be on ~ 7+ s/w versions BEHIND the latest s/w? My car's last s/w update was about 2 weeks ago but it only updated to 2021.44.30.21 and as I understand it, the latest s/w version is 2022.4.5.5 but there's like 7 s/w updates in between...what gives? I'll be...

I never believed in the ceramic & ppf stuff...until I did it! I always just had it waxed like 4x / year and thought my cars always looked as best as they possible could. I was wrong. My first time doing the ceramic coating & ppf was with my Tesla MS Plaid actually. I ceramic coated (Ceramic...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

With all of this info on soaring 1,000 degree heat on the brakes, pads burning & disintegrating into dust, and scored rotors, I am so glad I have zero interest in tracking my $146k Tesla MS Plaid that I drive everyday, lol! 😳🤣😜 My Plaid now has > 6k mi on it and I've been using the RB "street"...

Funny. I believe it. BTW -- I had a Porsche Macan Turbo for about 3 years...not 1 single rattle or odd sound other than the glorious roar of the engine and the sound system on that car. Quality German build.

I do not; if I do, it's so low in volume, it's completely indiscernible to me and I cannot hear it. My hearing is good. I think people are a bit too picky sometimes. For those that have the issue and they literally have to put their ear to the yoke button to hear it, I say you should probably...

Had my MS Plaid since the end of Oct, '21...definitely doesn't happen. I would've noticed a buzzing sound. No buzzing in my car. I hear a small rattle now and then, but that's from one of the rear seat latches or something around there. Yesterday, my driver's window stopped doing the auto...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Don't know about more brake upgrade options other than from RB, MP & UP. But what I can say is that I've now had plenty of time with my (oem sized) brake rotor & pad upgrades from RB...and I'm still super pleased with the performance improvement over oem! The car just stops much, much better...

    Any Plaid owners with FSD?

Yes, I got FSD v10.8 about 3 1/2 - 4 weeks ago with that "holiday update" when my Safety Score got to 97 if I recall and now I'm on the latest v10.9 FSD w/ s/w 2021.44.30. Still not seeing the much hyped improvements though...it's quite SKETCHY at best, imho.

So, would you say that many people would just drive around in "Track" mode instead of "Plaid" mode? I always drive around in Plaid mode now. :) And I wonder what it will be like and what the car's computer thinks IF you have better, aftermarket brake rotors & pads? Will it still show "brake...

Downloaded & installed 2021.44.6 on my Plaid 2 days ago and still don't have ANC. Still not understanding how this feature "turns itself on" and appears suddenly out of nowhere without another s/w update? If it's truly in 44.6, then why not make it active immediately with the 44.6 update? 🤔 ☹️

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

What are your thoughts about using the RB XT970 pads (with oem sized RB drilled/slotted rotors) on the street for occassional spirited runs as compared with the XT910 pads?
  41. sflgator

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Yes, that was my point. I was only saying that since the Plaid is a 1,020HP/1,050 ft/lb TQ to the wheels vehicle (& it's very heavy at > 4,800lbs), it's extremely powerful meaning it can get up to high speed very quickly AND you need really powerful BRAKES to slow/stop it.
  42. sflgator

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Yes and no. I've seen MS Plaid videos online where they show how difficult it is for the MS Plaid to slow down from higher speeds and they comment on how "terrible the Tesla oem brakes are." The oem brakes just do not demonstrate confidence in slowing & stopping this heavy, powerful vehicle...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I would say your MS Plaid brakes are/were about the same as my MS Plaid oem brakes when I test-drove your car several months ago. It took a good amount of force to slow the car from high speeds and although we didn't test it that much that day, I bet there would be a good amount of brake fade...

Will you have any install instructions that you can at least post up in this thread (or perhaps start a new thread)? Or an install video on YouTube would be cool (if it's not too much trouble). And, must the rear wheels be removed to install the rear mud flaps? I know the front ones can...
  45. sflgator

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Yes, the XT910 are their "street" pads, but they do also offer their XT970 "track" brake pads as well, which can be used on the street. In addition, they also offer larger-than-oem rotors & a BBK for the MS Plaid for the track. You have choices or you can wait for MP and the other companies.

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

RB's same-as-oem-size rotors 380mm/365mm with XT910 brake pads. Save 10% on Car Kit (380/365) for Tesla Plaid & LR Front & Rear (P/N 2679-K & 2435P-K) Basically, they help my MS Plaid slow & stop better. Period. Not so squishy with less brake overheating & less brake fade. No squeaks...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I have no idea about the history & arguments between yourself and RB (@RB_PB), but what I can say is that IF you track your car (any car, ICE or even an EV like a Tesla), you have to "Pay to Play." You will end up spending 10x as much $$ as the average driver who just uses their vehicle for...
  48. sflgator

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Agreed and Tesla knows it. I do not think Tesla will have any problem with anyone swapping out their brake rotors & pads with aftermarket ones. What I can tell you is that so far, I am pleased with my decision to do just this with the RB rotors & pads...much better braking performance than...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Have you tried to slow your MS Plaid down (with the oem brake rotors & pads) from high speeds on the track and/or in Mexico of course ;) ? It's not a good feeling. See how you feel doing this with higher performance, different compound pads? Although I still suspect the oem rotors just cannot...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Except that maybe, perhaps just 2% of TMC MS Plaid owners will be tracking their Plaids. The vast majority only cares about slowing/stopping more efficiently from higher speeds and/or in emergency situations on the street. If I wanted a "track car," I wouldn't have sold my modded '12 GT-R back...
