MCU1: Black center screen / mcu failure caused by a faulty navigation MicroSD card

Thanks for the helpful (while at times confusing) information in this thread. My 2013 model S needed frequent rebooting. I started to try to reach the SD slot from just the right side of the dash, but ended up doing both sides and pulling loose the whole unit. The best tip I can give is to...

    Supercharger - Indio, CA (LIVE, 36 V3 + 8 V2 + 2 Urban stalls)

Regarding driving L.A. to Phoenix, I remember the days before there were SCs at either Cabazon or Indio (or Blythe or Ehrenberg). One time we left Quartzsite with a full charge and found a hotel in Rancho Mirage with a Tesla 50A (40) charger. We ate and hung around for a couple of hours. Then...

    Supercharger - Indio, CA (LIVE, 36 V3 + 8 V2 + 2 Urban stalls)

I'm surprised Tesla hasn't put Superchargers at Chiriaco Summit. That's the best halfway point between Indio and Quartzsite.

USB flash drives no longer recognized

The 2020.12.11.5 update finally arrived for my 2013 Model S. This seems to have fixed the problem. My USB flash drives are now recognized and load and play songs. I did get a lockup by tapping a bunch of places to jump in and out of the loading screen and playback screen, but once all the...

USB flash drives no longer recognized

Thanks for this tip. I just checked my app and I indeed have the 2020.12.5 software. The 2020.12.10 update hasn't shown up yet. Is there any way to force it? I'm not really in any rush. I've only been getting out about once a week during this shutdown. Thanks.

USB flash drives no longer recognized

After a recent update, my USB flash drives are no longer recognized. The ports still have power and charge iPhones just fine. And the lights come on on drives that have them. I've tried 2 flash drives that previously work, and even reformatted a small drive with only 10 MP3s on it, both exFAT...

    Supercharger - Indio, CA (LIVE, 36 V3 + 8 V2 + 2 Urban stalls)

The Indio station is very busy. It's one of the few places I've had to wait to charge (also in Cabazon). I can understand this policy. With the influx of Model 3s, SCs have become fuller, especially on heavily travelled routes. We could use another charger between Indio and Quartzsite.

    Waypoints are coming!

OK, here it is...15 months from the original post hinting about the upcoming "waypoints" (I found this thread while searching and wishing for such a feature). My 2003 Infiniti nav had waypoints. My Model S is almost 6 years old and our Model X is one month older than this thread. Sigh...

    Supercharger - Indio, CA (LIVE, 36 V3 + 8 V2 + 2 Urban stalls)

I was at the battery swap demo and the stage was about 5 feet high so it's possible a battery swap rig could fit within that height. But we should also consider the possibility that they had 8 guys with power tools, levers and two batteries underneath the stage.

Devils advocating...from someone who shorted TSLA

I've never shorted a stock so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but it seems like the time to short TSLA would be when it's above 250. When it falls below 190, I'd see that as a buying opportunity (though I didn't) rather than than time to sell (short). Now it's rising again. I'm...

    Supercharger - Indio, CA (LIVE, 36 V3 + 8 V2 + 2 Urban stalls)

We went to Phoenix for Easter weekend to visit my sister. As we did at Christmas time, we stayed overnight at the Hilton in Palm Springs, charging at their Clipper Creek at 18 mph overnight. Then the next morning to Quartzsite and Phoenix. On the way back, we stopped at the Indian Wells...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I just recently found this thread and unfortunately I don't have a virgin trip meter, but I'll report what I know. I got my S85 with 19" wheels in June 2013 and now have 8,009 miles. I remember the first couple of months, my wh/m was 365. Now my highest trip meter is 2,500 with 348 wh/m so I'd...

A Class Action Lawsuit AGAINST "Pomerantz Grossman Hufford Dahlstrom & Gross LLP"

I don't think it matters whether investors fall for this faulty logic. The firm will have to fool a judge enough to keep him/her from throwing out such a meritless case. Tesla lawyers should find it fairly easy to point out the fallacy of the claim.

Devils advocating...from someone who shorted TSLA

It's crazy statements like this that cause people to snap back at Realist. "Very little chance"?? How about "a chance it won't survive" or even "little chance"? Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, but really...that's over the top.

A Class Action Lawsuit AGAINST "Pomerantz Grossman Hufford Dahlstrom & Gross LLP"

I don't think I'd take it as far as suing them back, but I agree with outrage. This lawsuit of theirs is frivolous at best. When the MS was found to be the safest car on the road, are they saying it was misleading for Tesla to put out a press release? When two MSes caught fire and the drivers...

Hottest Interior Temperature (according to the app)?

Well, I'm only speaking from my own experience. I should have stated that. Every thermostat I've used is an on/off switch. The heat or A/C goes on until the temperature is reached. My results with the MS temperature is similar, although the fan speed does slow down when about 1º from the...

Hottest Interior Temperature (according to the app)?

This shows a common misconception with thermostats. It's one of my pet peeves in the workplace. If one person is uncomfortable, he'll crank the thermostat past the desired target. It doesn't shorten the time to the comfort zone. It only ensure that later on, others will be uncomfortable...

    Random Model S sightings

The other day in Beverly Hills there were 3 Model S's stopped at the same intersection...Sunset, Crescent, and Beverly Drive, corner of the Beverly Hills Hotel. We were all facing each other, first at the light. I tried to wave at the other 2 drivers but they weren't paying attention. That's...

Console and dash form giant logo

Do you guys really think it's a stretch? I took this picture from the sunroof area with a wide angle lens. Do you really think it's not intentionally representing the Tesla logo? Are you telling me this is just a coincidence? It looks pretty deliberate to me. The center console is tapered...

    Teslas in Movies & TV

How long before we start seeing the MS in movies and TV shows, or has it already been featured? Every time I see a scene where a hot ICE takes off, I envision a Tesla. It wouldn't have all the engine sound and bluster but would be impressive and would educate the masses. Showing the center...

Console and dash form giant logo

I couldn't find any other mention of this. Has anyone else noticed that the center console and dash represent the Tesla 'T' logo? The center console gets wider as it nears the dash and as you move up through the cubby, it branches out onto the dash to form the top of the 'T'. My wife noticed...

To Creep or Not to Creep?

When I started driving my MS, I used creep all the time. But the thing that bugged me was having to brake at low speeds to overpower the creep. I haven't seen anyone mention this, but it would seem the easiest solution to creep complaints is for it to be enabled only if you've been stopped and...

    Center console on the cheap!

Good point. When I look at these pictures which I've taken with a lot of light and detail and the seats moved all the way back, it does look cheap. But in daily use with less light and the seats forward, it blends in well and doesn't shout, "look at me, I'm cheap". My wife wouldn't allow...

    Center console on the cheap!

Here's how I adapted my center console for my needs. I found the Hopkins GoGear Efficiency Console (black) at Pep Boys for about $6 here: http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9411265 It's a little too wide to fit in the console area so I cut down the sides a little over an inch (with an...

    Floor Mat Erectile Dysfunction???

My solution to curling passenger floor mat Here's what I did to solve the problem using two common items in your desk drawer. I bent a paper clip so there's a hook on one end and firmly attached the other end to a small binder clip (using a pliers to form a closed loop). Under the plastic...

    Model S: Clever Vanity Plates

I was surprised that I was able to get "TESLA J" just 2 months ago in California. Still waiting for the plates, though. John P.S. Years ago, I came up with "LOSOVE" but I never got it because I figured no one would ever figure it out. Can you?.

Brainstorming: How to reduce supercharger wait times

I've only used Superchargers 6 times (Gilroy twice, Harris Ranch, Tejon, Buellton, Hawthorne). None of them had more than half of the stalls in use. Has anyone actually arrived at a SC and found all stalls in use?

Supercharger - Buellton, CA (temporary closure)

We drove from LA to Santa Barbara yesterday, then up to Buellton to charge. As noted earlier, Buellton does not show in the nav list of Superchargers. We used teslamotors.com (BTW, it doesn't load without the "www", but that's another story) to find the location, which as mentioned is at the...

    Extremely Disappointed about SuperCharger rollout

Wow, I can't believe I had to read 125 posts to find out how polarized the members here are. How about we decide to be either disappointed (without the needless "extremely") or happy (without gushing too much)? I didn't learn anything more in 125 posts than I did in the first 10. I thought we...

    Remote Kill & Track

Seems to me the easiest way to steal the Model S is through carjacking. I didn't see anyone discuss this. That's when some type of kill function would stop the thief. Barring that, if you could get the police to pick you up quickly, you could track and intercept the car with the app. Also...
