@smartypnz when did you get the update? My VIN is close to yours and on the restricted list, cant get updates until bugs with 2018.4.9 are resolved. If you got this recently, its a good sign for others. Will be especially appreciated by those experiencing the phone as key problems.

Problem here is that the issue is fixable as described, however, this is a temporary fix likely to return. Another temporary fix is switching to airplane mode and back out of it. Its also a faster than rebooting everything and Tesla says not to uninstall/reinstall the app in attempt to remedy...

That BMW fob is ridiculously large and bulky. Tesla's Model S fob weighs 24 grams - equal in weight to .53 cents worth of change - it is not a big bulky item. - Key card weighs 7 grams.

Yes you loose it. Made a trip from Folsom to Grover Springs last week, lost navigation for a good 30 minutes leaving the springs for the return trip. Only partial loss on the way there. Have made same trip with the Model S without loosing navigation.

Haha, yes my wife likes the Model S more than the Model 3 however she has only driven it (M3) a few times. After having trouble with the key card and phone as key, she gave up on it. My opinion, the Model S is a great car and I love the hell out of it, but Model 3 is more fun to drive.

Perhaps solving this issue is as simple as Tesla creating a flat fob the size of a credit card. Then we would all be happy. That and we could once again unlatch our trunks with a click. Our Model S fobs are faily low mass and weight, so it seems possible.

Notice that 1. He had to move the wallet, it did not read it immediately. 2. The wallet was very thin. 3. The key card was placed either first or last so as to have an antenna near the wallet fabric, never between the other cards.

The card must be nearly touching to work. I would like to see a video of someone using a card in the wallet. Unless it is directly behind the fabric it will not work.

And. It. Is. Awesome! Leather is comfortable no doubt about it, but this material whatever-it-is is even more comfortable*. Very similar to leather but ever so slightly softer. Great stuff. In winter anyway, have not experienced it in summer yet.

Hot iron the Model S fob or melt the key card into a shape of Model 3. Bet they are close to the same bulk. Btw, I'm with you on loving the car - great to hear you are loving it as well - It is a great vehicle no doubt about it. But the waiting to unlock issue is a headache.

My wife won't drive it anymore either. She doesn't care for the key card (who does?) and the phone as key is too sketchy for her. Oh well. It's a pain but overall still a fun car to drive once it lets you in.

Mine is from the other member who sold out to another company, fairly sure it was evannex, so probably the same product. You could always ask them.

Still awesome after 4 years. Another member (thought @artci was user name but apparently that is incorrect) making them at the time. Not sure if there are differences from back then or not but mine is like new. I want one for my Model 3. Going to see if it is offered now.

Have you installed the latest update? Most got it last night. Its a bit early to confirm victory but the biggest problem of unresponsiveness seems remedied with this update. Personally, I haven't had an issue since installing it nor have I seen posts about it since then. Check your settings...

Not only softer, it has a cushy feel thats difficult to explain. Love these seats. Leaps and bounds better than leather that would already have began to show wear on the driver's side entry point ... also know as ingress?... Not a lawyer so pardon the technical wording.

Interesting that you have one phone, two Tesla vehicles and are having issues too. Your problem might be slightly different. If your app is not switched to the Model 3 it will not work. Try leaving the app on Model 3 and use your fob for the Model S.

One question before casting a vote, are both badges new? My Model 3 has no rear badging whatsoever.

Yes. Since you say "We're" I'll assume there are 2 (or more) people using the same app for the same car ... You are likely experiencing the same problems as orhers. Are both (or more) using the same* model phones? *I.e. two iPhone5 or two Android 7

Okay cool. Reading the thread it seemed to go from turning a key card into a fob (probably reliable) to using a smaller phone as a fob (probably unreliable). Just want to keep things clear. A small phone will not work as a fob any better than a large phone.

I received a package a week ago, Tesla put the wrong shipping label on it. The order belonged to someone else. They wouldn't return emails or phone calls so it was sent back to them today. Seems they are a bit overwhelmed these days.

I don't get it. How will a smaller phone solve this problem? It's not going to connect any better than a full size phone. Or am I missing something?

I sincerely hope your problem is solved, but color me skeptical. I've 'solved' my issues 3 to 4 times only to have them return 2 days later. Happened again today, and once again on a rainy cold day. Beginning to think cold weather and rain is the culprit.

I thought the same thing until experiencing the frustration firsthand. The problem with the phone is that it is completely unreliable. The fob works without fail. Fumbling for the card when your phone can't connect on a relaxing, windless, 78 degree weekend day is not a big issue. Its another...
