Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I am disappointed in Elon for this: Elon: “No I was playing a fool on Twitter!” He chooses to use his twitter account as a mouthpiece to speak to the many of us investors, and for him to be sending out misinformation that way is ...well... disappointing. Change my mind.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I am laughing reading that reddit AMA. I see so many of the same names there as here. Plus, the lack of an answer to some of those basic, well thought out questions about their methodology. Love it.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That's a good point, I made a mistake there on the numbers. However you want to run the numbers, however, it is a material statement as he was confirming a particular production number, and for that reason my argument is still valid even if he was essentially saying "we will make 430 model 3"

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I believe by confirming the high end of the range of guidance it is a material change in guidance. This sort of stuff often moves companies and it did move tesla after hours, albeit small.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

@Papafox How do you know those options expire in feb and not, say, in march? I read the article listed and didn't mention of the expiration date.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Is there any way to see which boat that is, or what day that is? How do we know whether it is from today or a while ago?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

13F filed today by GERBER KAWASAKI WEALTH & INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT. Shows a sale of 1000 or so shares of their 40,000. That's Ross from twitter/tv fame. Also new: Baillie Gifford added 108,000 shares. NEW YORK STATE COMMON RETIREMENT FUND sold 134,000 shares.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I did not see evidence to support this overall in the 13f filings. There were two large holders of puts (200,000) that did sell out/lower their puts, but there were also large holders of puts who bought more (100,000 more puts).

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I have to agree with this strongly. I think the cash generating power of the company was demonstrated and right now the macro events (tariffs particularly) are what drive this stock until the next earnings.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah I see as of 2019 it's not titled as such. I was asking if we could get back a thread titled as such because it would be nice to see a discussion of real time market moving events, like tariff negotiations etc.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Is there any way to get back a tesla market action thread? I think the majority of posts here are just people having random discussions that are tangentially related to tesla. It's nearly impossible to scan through all the posts coming out for any usable information and I know some people have...

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

@ReflexFunds Why did zev credits go to zero in 2019 for the whole year? I thought that most recently one analyst just modeled a whopping 400 m in zev credits for the first quarter.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

13f filed by ark investment this weekend shows a sale of shares: ARK INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT LLC shares 414,107 value $137,815,000 change in shares (decrease) 332,618 That's a huge decrease. For any other filings this weekend of holders over 50,000,000 dollars in shares, all purchased shares...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Spiegel's Stanphyl capital letter is out on seeking alpha now with the prediction that TSLA will revert to losses in 2019. In essence: foreign sales will not drive zev credit generation. An increase in opex as predicted by the company will lower the amount of profit made by the company from...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I keep tabs on the 13f filings as well via TSLA 13F Hedge Fund and Asset Management Owners. Hedgemind is claiming there is -3,007,113 in net sales of shares. For the record, one seller was significant and that was bank of montreal dumping 2,999,843. I reviewed all the other filings available...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Ugh there's so much crap in this thread these days. Where did you see this? I have been going through the 13F filings each day and I do not see an update from T Rowe, and around 9/30/18 they added 5 million shares so I don't think I agree with you.

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

It seems like the title should be more along the lines of "detailed quarterly financial projections and quarterly financial models." This is one of the best threads and I think the one I reference the most as interesting data comes in. I think we should maintain it and have it just roll forward...

    Super Bulls Only

I am in the same boat. I am adding 570 strike call options for 2020 (about $1k each). I look at the constant divergence of TSLA from the NASDAQ and I look at things like the 80,000 share dump on friday where the share price recovered within minutes and view it as solid buying. I see a negative...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

That is one possibility. Another is that there is "buy at the close" and a "buy at the open" function that larger institutions use. When an institution places a buy at the close order, that institution agrees to buy at the closing price of the day. This allows them to get a large number of...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I've gotten about 500 margin calls and been sold out repeatedly. In general they give you 5 business days. In severe cases when your margin call exceeds $20-50,000 they ask you to settle by 3:00. I've had margin calls up and over $100,000 and they generally sell your stocks first and not your...

So the price is now up almost 15 dollars off the daily low. I'd have to say that's a very positive sign even if it's a net of 4% down.

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I happen to agree with you that "secured" is vague, but that is going to be crux of the lawsuit and I don't really know how a judge will take it. It is quite ironic that andrew left is the one complaining. His business plan is- consistently- to take a very large short position, then dump a...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I think you're being a bit misleading or at least obtuse, especially since you truncate musk's quote prior to the point that is at issue. The fact that he was "considering" taking it private is not at issue. The news article from CNBC says The suit specifically cites Musk's Aug. 7 tweet about...

Living in a certain location doesn't count as evidence. I don't really care what Mike117's stock position is, I find his points on Elon here to be mirroring my own and those of the people I know (I got emails related to the buzzfeed article going "what the heck is up with Elon"). Mike117...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I think this would be a fair point to make if the buzzfeed article was in isolation- however, you have Elon's own tweets to back up the viewpoint being pushed by buzzfeed. I have family members that do not follow Tesla closely but see the news articles about his attack without evidence and...

Revhappy2 referenced the 420 leaps and said they went down. "I believe some people here, were caught on the wrong foot when the LEAPS above 420 crashed on the go private news." If we look at the calls he referenced in his post, he is correct. Elon's tweet was on August 7. If we compare the day...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Actually his comment doesn't seem to be one that would originate from a paid basher at all. I think you're making a mistake maligning him. I also have the same thought- the premium of calls is high right now. As the premium on calls is high right now, implied volatility is high, the premium on...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

The simple explanation is that he was provoked by some no-name on twitter and remarked out of emotion without thinking. Seeing as that seems to his self-proclaimed MO so far it's probably the most likely. After all, when he apologized for the original offensive tweet I recall he said it was a...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Well here's a ray of bright light: Tesla long term debt is up in value despite the stock price being down today. If anything, this furthers my opinion that today's dip in share price is just an issue of sentiment. TESLA 17/25 REG.S 88.34 USD +1.35 (1.55%)

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Coming to the Market action thread and saying "disregard the share price" doesn't make sense to me. I would assume the people on this thread are here to fret about the share price. Maybe you're right and we should all go about our lives and ignore the price today and we'd all be happier for it...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I think the sad thing is that tweets that currently move the market price are part of this topic. I am so ready to sell shares because of his tweeting. Just a gut feeling- I know in the end I won't, but as long as he has that phone in hand he is unpredictable.

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

We have had this come up a few times, might work at some brokerages but def not at fidelity. If you are in a margin account and have no debit, they won't be lent out. If you have a cash covered account, they won't be lent out unless you agree to it. If you have a margin account and a margin...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Yeah I agree with what you said, if you own a share you cannot tell if it was bought from a long exiting or a short seller. But once you own a share, you can lend it out to someone. Thus you become a "long" who essentially doesn't have a share. For this population of people who lend them out...
  41. mershaw2001

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I think that i agree with you and GGR. The gist of what I was getting at in the original post was that a long position created by a short sale does not have to be paid out when Tsla is bought out. Thus the author of the article was incorrect in his calculation that 24 billion was needed to...
  42. mershaw2001

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

There are not two shares. There is one place holder by the lender. There is one short seller who has to fulfill that placeholder by eventually returning the share. And the share is sold to a new long. I think you may have meant that there are two parties in this equation who have an interest...
  43. mershaw2001

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Not to mention they say: "Musk suggested two-thirds of investors might do so, which would result in a need for about $24 billion in outside capital at $420 per share" which isn't accurate with the large short interest. They neglected to subtract out the shares that are held by people who...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking but the flaw in your thinking is here: "but you still get $50 per share which zeros out the PnL there and you still make the CC premiums" If the price of the stock runs up over the strike price, you only received a set amount at the time of sale of the...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

As this is the market thread, I have to say that I was surprised at the low volatility in the stock- particularly the options market- today. I took the opportunity to buy back short call options and buy a few far out of the money options with far-out-of-the-money strike prices two weeks from...
