Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Translation: "No, we don't have the rest of the system worked out to make the system safe, reliable, and natural to use. But I like my fashion statement and am sticking with it anyway."
Time to surf over to lucid.com and take another hard look at the Air. The way things have been going with...
Exactly so. And "blocking the instrument panel" was solved decades ago with steering wheels that tilt.
Square tires? Elon has already applied "alien teechnology" to solve that dilemma: his version will be triangular which eliminates one bump. Rumor has it the three-sided wheel will be...
If you are not thrilled about driving, why spend the money on a performance car?
FSD is about as exciting as taking Uber.
No FSD for me, thank you very much. And I hope my lowly MS LR has a factory round wheel option, else I look at Lucid again.
The way things are going, Lucid might be a...
Newsflash - the Phanerozoic goes back about 500 million years, not 10,000 or so. Hopefully the rest of your science knowledge is better. Here, let me help you:
Geologic time scale - Wikipedia
Now, the CO2 levels over that time:
File:Phanerozoic Carbon Dioxide.png - Wikipedia
And...
The temperature data (even after frequent and extensive "adjustments") stubbornly refused to follow the CMIP models. The longer the time interval, the more ridiculous the results.
And then there was that whole Phanerozoic Era thing. Bad enough that current temperatures are relatively cool...
That is the approach I am taking. Really, I just need 10-15 minutes of low-speed driving and a Y-turn, U-turn, and parallel parking to make sure the yoke is acceptable.
It is almost inconceivable that Tesla Company Test Drivers have not already done this, but seems worth the extra effort on my...
Sorry, I am just a worker-bee. No VIP Invites for me. If I had that kind of clout I would be on the Roadster Forums, not the Model S Forums.
But I do read accident investigations, and this is as far off-topic as I care to go into such a tragedy with a non-pilot:
For if you were a pilot (and...
A year ago Tesla was not even on my radar screen. Being open-minded (on occasion) I started looking into it.
Don't get me wrong, I am not one of the Fan Boys or Green Theocracy people. My angle is the performance. And of course efficiency is its own virtue. And OMG, the Tesla delivers the...
It is.
The arrival of a real competitor (the Lucid Air) has benefited us all.
Before the refresh I was 50/50 on Tesla/Lucid, but I think the refresh has tilted it back to Tesla.
Interesting you mention that, since I fly 737's, including the Max.
It's just a little bit more complicated. But still, a few relevant points:
1) Automation overriding human input (i.e., the Software Engineers Know Best mentality);
2) Poorly trained and lightly experienced pilots; and
3)...
Speaking as a pilot, I think Elon missed a great opportunity. The yoke was a half-measure. Ditch the yoke for a side-mounted stick.
That would really free up some real estate in front of the driver.
I also have a LR on order, just before Christmas.
Sure, I would love the old price (they have yet to update my Tesla Account, but I am not holding my breath). But, it is not the same car either. I appears that for the extra $9K (give or take) I am getting:
- 0.5 seconds faster 0-60;
- Better...
I can't believe all of this caterwauling over speed-sensitive or fly-by-wire steering (as well as video mirrors).
You are already driving a supercomputer on wheels!
Notice that the LR lost about 350 pounds. That is quite a lot. They certainly didn't do it by making the paint (even) thinner.
The two heaviest components of the car are structural metal - and batteries.
You noticed that too?
Cd gets slightly better - range gets slightly better. Ok so far ...
But look at the curb weight - down about 350 pounds (LR model). So it did get the 4680 batteries, just fewer of them. The structural pack for the LR and Plaid will have some "empty cells", the Plaid +...
My 2016 Honda has this. It's awesome - much better than a mirror.
The sensor is recessed, it never gets road film (unlike my back-up camera).
The sensor can also be manually activated and left On, a great feature for city expressway driving.
I did not.
But I did notice that my LR got 0.5 seconds faster 0-60 and a glass roof like the Lucid Air.
If the Premium Connectivity Package gets Animal Planet (K9 Cops) my German Shepherd will love the rear screen. She gets so excited when a call comes in and its time to chase down a perp.
Aero is nice, the electricity savings not material as you say.
What it is really about is SA - situational awareness. SA = Safety = Lower accident/injury/insurance occurrences.
Mirrors have limited coverage, lots of head movement. Video mirrors have better coverage and can be put up on the...
Yes, it is beautiful. And nicer interior than the Model S (of course, that is not a high bar to cross).
The new entry Taycan is price-competitive to the Model S Long Range.
Not competitive on accel or range. Or interior space. And almost certainly not on maintenance and factory parts.
But it...
Greater range takes the sting out of slow recharge times. And makes it a viable long-vacation-with-the-kids car.
In every product category Convenience sells, and if Tesla wants to expand from Early Adopters to the general ICE-owning public glacial recharge is the handicap holding them back.
Yes, that is all true of sedans.
But once you own a SUV ... hard to do without it. Handles towing, kids, dogs, camping, hauling, and sports equipment - but doesn't ride like a truck. Huge reasons they have been such a runaway success, even for people that never leave the paved roads.
When we...
Hmmm. We do need a car due to teenage boys approaching driving age (they are getting the hand-me-downs).
I would look at the new offering of course - but it would be just as easy to buy another ICE vehicle now and wait a year for Lucid.
Killing the S/X would be a bad move IMHO.
The problem is in the wiring harness for the new door-mounted side-stick controller that replaces the steering wheel and the HUD projector that replaces the center display.
Sales on the S/X were already slow - and with the "news" sites openly speculating today - slow sales will get even slower.
That makes two cases:
1) There is no refresh.
- In the face of even less demand, Tesla will have to make a statement to the effect of "no refresh" to keep the sales.
2)...
My MS order was placed just before Christmas, and the Advisors from the Snottsdale store contacted me three times about inventory cars.
I declined all of those offers and stated I wanted new production. No contacts since then, I'll keep watching my email.
Checking this morning, my quoted...
However long it takes for someone with a drone or long lens camera to catch the first one being loaded onto a truck ...
Built today, maybe a day for the paint to cure?
Of course, all the speculation is on exterior changes ... could be just the rather bland interior.
As one with a MS on order, that would be fine with me. The exterior is still classic - like the Porsche 911. A certain nostalgia in that. And as a first-time EV buyer, more range would certainly be welcomed. Mid 400's per tank/charge is what I am accustomed to with ICE.
OTOH, the interior is...
Until the Lucid Air hits the streets in 2021 with better technology and fresher ideas.
I'm happy with how the S looks now, a classic. It does not have to be as "aero" as the Air.
But as the Air moves "downscale" into the current S price point, the S interior and technology will be very dated.
