MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

You don't need to argue, just get scan my tesla and test. Or the s3xy buttons. Why are people so cheap about this if they want to track their degradation so gradually?

Model Y RWD is now long range (May 3) in the US

Sooo, I guess I was right, could be a good idea to listen and think, before quoting "articles" https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/model-y-2024-new-range-estimates.319020/page-5#post-8016742 Here is the proof from Musk himself...

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

You guys need to understand that almost 90% or more if the Model 3s/Ys out there have uncalibrated BMS. Most people charge at home between 50% to 80% which screws the results. So you have to really know how the car was charged the last month or two to understand if you can trust the readings...

    Snippiness 2.0

The EPA, once again, has a separate highway cycle. It is not 70mph, but close. It is listed separately in their PDF where they list the kWh pulled and consumption for each run. It is obviously not as comprehensive as a 70mph run from 100% to 0%. But even that would be misleading as you have...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Model 3 Highland just released with more range than its predicessor. The LR increased by 8 miles. Both Highland LR and SR batteries not made in the US and don't qualify for the 7500$. Any other arguments to pull out?! EPA has a 65mph "highway" test and lists the figures separately on each EPA...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

"HAD". They removed it precisely because it will affect the EPA numbers. This is actually a point in favor of the "different" battery sizes, which I broight earlier, since the Performance Model Y actually has sport mode while the LR AWD doesn't. Yet their range dropped by exactly the same %...
  7. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

That is also a very good question as the EPA testing should actually deliever lower range across the board. Also the 21" got 7 miles more! Add it to my other two questions and the picture becomes clearer. My estimate would be more capacity added (brought back capacity actually, the LR S used...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Did I say "I know" anywhere?! This is a forum, we speculate. I was pretty right when I suggested in the first post that Tesla did change something, wasn't I? For them to confirm that right away. While all the time the talking heads were screaming "EPA", "EPA", "nothing changed" and...

The above "article" is a copy paste from the old one, with a reference to the tweet I just posted yesterday, BEFORE the actual "article". Model Y 2024 new range estimates

So when it doesn't work with facts, you bring ad hominem?! What does "living" somewhere got to do with anything? And if you juuust check out my profile, you will see that I have a pretty good background on EPA and how it works, including reading the actual documents and following the capacities...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

No, the EPA test the cars themselves of course. Only EPA's own tests are reflected on the sticker Tag on the websites... Crazy ideas you guys have... "EPA tests vehicles by running them through a series of driving routines, also called cycles or schedules, that specify vehicle speed for each...
  12. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

People get "facts" from the source. In this case EPA. EPA for once hasn't posted any new data for the models in your "article". Your "article" is based on a "guy" on twitter, who in turn is speculating or even "misleading"( he is a very pro Tesla person if you follow the news...). Your "article"...

    Snippiness 2.0

*Sigh*... This is because you don't understand how the EPA works. There are two types of Tests EPA does, full cycle and the two-cycle which results in 30% penalty for the company which chooses NOT to do the full cycle, because it doesn't take cold testing under consideration. Tesla is the...
  14. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

No, the Tesla range numbers are 1:1 from EPA. Neither optimistic, nor realistic, it is what EPA tested and they put it on the sticker. If you live in California or in Holland you can actually get these EPA estimates 99% of the year in real world driving. I am hitting the EPA estimates 60% of the...
  15. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

The 310 miles you see next to the battery is your capacity. This is just your normal degradation from a 21 model as the battery display is direct representation of kWh in miles over a specific "Tesla" formula that reverts kWh to Miles. For estimated range you have to go to "Energy" - then...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

These are not the ones shipped to the US, but for the China cars shipped to Europe. The US based came from Korea.... "LG Chem has already added production lines in South Korea this year mainly to meet demand from Tesla's U.S. plant, the people said. " Nope, false. Not even close. By that same...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

No, you didn't asnwer his question - if the EPA changed their procedures ALL cars should receive new EPA estimates. Model 3 didn't. Model 3 is the only car that uses mostly imported batteries and doesn't qualify for the TAX break. Nothing "went up, went down". Only *Specific* models went down...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Sure, and we also know a few other things: 1. Tesla didn't change the EPA range on the Y RWD model with batteries imported from abroad. 2. Didn't change the 3 range even though the EPA "supposedly" change their calculations for all cars? How come? And the 3 doesn't qualify as it uses LG and CATL...
  20. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

You will not see any, because the MY is not production constrained, but sales constraint. Everyone who had an order got their car. There might be a few who haven't, but out of the few, how many will "post their emails"?! Plus, the person posting about this is a known Tesla shill...Just like...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Haha, ok a Korean company makes the "cells" in China... Did you read that sentence twice? The LG cells are made by LG in Korea, the batteries are assembled in USA and in China for the different models. They are then shipped to Europe or made in USA or China for the local markets... Why do...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

By the way, if Tesla indeed changed "something in the comfort" of the car (total bull...), how likely is it that cars with different weights and configurations, will receive an exact 10% decrease, equivalent to let's say decrease in equal amount of capacity for both cars?! And not just an X...
  24. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

No, you are confusing things. The "chinese batteries" you are reffering to are CATL. They are used in the SR, which doesn't have 333 miles. The 333 miles is a Long range model. It used to have Panasonic, but they changed to LG, from Korea, not China (Asia, still, yes...) This is why Model 3...
  25. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Ok, so I guess Tesla put that simple "EPA lowered their test procedures" explanation to rest. They confirm in an Email that they changed the configuration of their X, WHICH RESULTED in the EPA testing their vehicle and getting less range "UNDER THE NEW CONDITIONS". They claim that "it...
  26. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Correct, none of them are reflected on the Model Y. Send me the link where the EPA tested the Model Y, it is public information and easily available... No, they have to test it and publish it. "Goto" 1 above... Ok, so you really have no idea what you are talking about...
  27. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

I think they actually did exactly that. The AWD in the video above has 67kWh usable. This adds quite well to the new estimates on the website if they just add a few more cells and lower the capacity. And your point 1 and 2 actually confirm the suspicion that they have to lower the capacity...
  28. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

"For whatever reason"😂 This right here is the definition of unqualified comment. Math doesn't add up to claim EPA change, but then just add "for whatever reason" For everybody else: Model 3 range didn't change Model Y RWD didn't change 1. There is no new EPA Test for the changed models 2. You...

    Snippiness 2.0

No, it is not, stop repeating it. If it was - we would have new EPA tests(we don't) and it would be for all models(not select ones) Can people start thinking for themselves nowadays and stop repeating stuff they half-read on the internet?
  30. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Where that?! Link?! A "Tesla fam boy" stated that and a lot of people are quoting him on that... They don't have to use CATL, they can reduce the capacity on the LGs or Panasonics to lower costs of the car as their margins have shrunk.
  31. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

They have actually done that many times in the past...And most people hardly understand what "capacity" of the battery means, they will still buy the car as they have no frame of reference
  32. TimothyHW3

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

The Model Y LR and P received new range estimates which is most likely due to change in thei battery pack. Do we have an EPA testing on the 24 year models that show how much kWh the EPA pulled out of the battery? I guess they are switching to 4680 to benefit from the tax breaks in the US

Mobile Access Disabled until car wakes up

I read it, but still this is bull... Tesla is such an Apple company and both have really disgusting policies and practices

Mobile Access Disabled until car wakes up

Has anyone sent a bug report or a service appointment? I mean they can't force us to update to a certain version and the App was advertised when the car was bought. So they have no legal way of doing that. Not that that has stopped Tesla from doing things in the past, but still... Also the issue...

Vendor S3XY Buttons - Regenerative braking

@smogne41 All we have to do now is get your car and see what signals you get before and after the upgrade:) There must be a way to unlock this - there are people who unlock boost with OBD dongles, so if it is a software flag on the main computer there surely is a way. Anyone who can provide me...

Vendor S3XY Buttons - Regenerative braking

Which is strange since there must be a flag stored somewhere that tells it to start the dumb cc and not adaptive cc. And it should work offline. You activate it by pressing the stick once, correct? And you don't have the AP option? Maybe the signal is different from the adaptive cc? Is the...

Vendor S3XY Buttons - Regenerative braking

@dimitar.ns Is it possible to add a feature that disables the adaptive distance cruise control and enables unlimited speed, but dumb cruise control that just keeps the speed? That would be great when the adaptive cc has issues and will also give a higher speed availability to cruise control. I...

    S3XY buttons at Abstract Ocean

@KennethS Great for you, but for new owners the scroll shortcuts would be enough. Most if not all of the features are no available through some shortcuts in the steering wheel. The only thing I am missing is real control of the heating as this sucks, even with the S3XY buttons @dafish You...

    S3XY buttons at Abstract Ocean

That is unfortunate as you can see from the messages here - the newer updates Tesla did to the scroll wheel and the Siri voice commands or the notification shortcuts on iOS made most of your features useless, so only the nerdier stuff and older versions of the software are interesting.

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Again, ideal remaining, not nominal should be used... Look, I get that at these speeds there is minimal loss. I actually had a run the other day of 155km at low speeds on "curvy, humpy" roads. I started full and spent 21 kWh according to the BC and the ideal remaining delta was actually lower...
  44. TimothyHW3

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Nominal remaining is not what the car uses, but the value under "ideal remaining". Nominal remaining is not relevant... This also varies by temperature, especially in winter ideal remaining is way lower. Unfortunately the dev from smt doesn't include this value under battery so you have to copy...

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

You can check this new Nyland video, where he had about 500-800Wh loss. Check begin and towards the end, which coincides almost perfectly with my rule of thumb for about 0.5-1kWh in Summer at around 120km/h(he was driving a bit slower)

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

The "full pack when new" number is not what we are talking about. I was reffering to the difference between the kWh used reported by Tesla on display and the actual kWh used according to the BMS. The delta between nominal full at the begining and nominal full at the end (actually "ideal...
  49. TimothyHW3

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Quite simple - I check what scan my tesla is reporting for available capacity at the begining and how much kWh the car used for the drive vs how much it should've used if it were to use the full available capacity. There is always a difference between the two. How would heat loss vary with...
